RIP Chester Barnes

Just seen that Chester Barnes the best Table Tennis player in the UK for many years in the 1960’s and early 1970’s died suddenly last Friday. After he retired in 1975 he was his good friend racehorse trainer Martin Pipes’ assistant for a few decades.

He was a real showman and strangely for a Table Tennis player regarded as something of a sex symbol.

I'm sure that I saw him play at a holiday camp. They added humour to the show by using a miniture bat and also a frying pan. RIP Chester.
