R.I.P Clive Everton
Today snooker mourns the loss of one it's finest commentators of all time.
Clive Everton has sadly passed away at the age of 87.

His was a recognisable voice of the sport and an authentic ambassador for it. Clive spent many years working at the BBC and some in the latter part of his career at ITV.

Clive was someone I respected and admired enormously as a voice I grew up with watching the sport I love the most. Sincerest condolences to family and friends.

R.I.P.

It's a winning break Sad

I couldn't stand him for years; then he had a perhaps infamous fall in his bathroom, and he suddenly became a sage-like voice of wisdom. Certainly seemed to have a better grasp than some.
His playing career was winding down when I was getting into the sport, one of the older guard.

RIP.

RE: R.I.P Clive Everton
For me Clive Everton was the equivalent of the left wing voice of snooker. In the 1980s he was the editor of a magazine called Snooker Scene, and I subscribed to it to read his latest rant about then WPBSA Chairman Rex Williams. Everton scrutinized every decision, every announcement, Williams made and he was scathing in his criticism, holding Williams to account.

Eddie Charlton was the equivalent of Tubbs Murphy at the time, he was Williams biggest supporter in the press. I have seen many snooker matches on TV where Everton was the commentator and Charlton was the summariser, and I was amused by how they addressed each other by their first names and spoke as if they were best friends when in print they were at opposite ends of the spectrum.

I was never a fan of Everton as a snooker player or commentator, but as a snooker journalist he was my favourite by far.

RE: R.I.P Clive Everton
I know it's late but I always felt Clive was one commentator that brought snooker to life, like Sid Waddell brought Darts to life.

I remember him commentating on Cliff Thorburn's 147 (the first at the Crucible that was televised I think) and I remember as Cliff settled down to the final black Clive said "Good luck mate". That 147 was probabably a surreal snooker televised moment as they had finished the match on the other table and lifted the screen and the atmosapherre was so unreal. Even Bill Werbeniuk peered round the screen at one point to see what was going on!

He probably is being missed in the commentators box now.

RIP

Ahem, Jack Karnehm was the commentator on Cliff's 147 who said "Good Luck Mate". Ted Lowe was with him on the commentary, responsible for his classic "keep rolling".
