RE: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012
To be honest, i'm just glad i'm not on the board who have to choose the final ten to vote on, cause you know that whoever ends up in that list, there will always be an outcry for those who dont'......!

There was also a call last year for them to have a female winner this year, just because we hadn't had one for a long time, so that may or may not also play a part; along with the obvious call for a Paraolympian to also win, just to show how much our 'tolerant and p.c. society' has come along...??

Whether it's an obvious olympian contender like ennis, farah, ainsley, hoy; or some other sports person like murray, hamilton (if he wins the f1 title by then), or a.n.other; there are always going to be arguments...... like i say; i'm just glad it's not on my neck or head...!!

I never sit on the fence. I prefer to drop kick it out the way instead! Could possibly be a big fan of wankspangling?

My 4 are Jess Ennis, Wiggo, Andy Murray and Mo Farrah. Before the Olympics my money would have been on Wiggo, but now Mo seems to be everywhere, so I won't be surprised if he pinches it from Wiggo.

Andy Murray has become the 1st man to win a championship in 76 years and won a gold medal.
Bradley Wiggins became the first Brit to win the Tour de France and has also won a gold medal in the olympics.
Mo Farah won two gold medals in the Athletics
Ben Ainslie won his fifth gold medal in succession.
And Sir Chris Hoy who added to his gold medal total in the velodrome.

And there's been various other great performances in the Olympics and Paralympics.

So who will win this year..
Sods Law says it will probably be a footballer, or a jockey that you've never even heard of, or it will be Victoria Pendleton with her 'Strictly Come Dancing' popularity.. Big Grin

Given the quality of some of the performances on offer I think that it is safe to say that this will be one of the tightest SPoY races in a long time.

Candidates for me

Murray
Wiggins
Hoy
Farrah
Ainslie
Pendleton
(Laura) Trott
McIlroy

Anyone care to suggest anyone else?

If you take the name of the award literally (Sports Personality ) then you have to rule Murray out Wink

As for who should win it's almost impossible to choose....

Mo Farah, a refugee from Mogadishu who spoke hardly any English when he arrived here as a child but now sounds more British than 90% of the population and is proud to compete for the country. Double Olympic Champion and in the words of David Moorcroft "the greatest middle distance runner Britain has ever seen"

Jessica Ennis, who had all the pressure of being TeamGB's "poster girl", was unbelievably accused of being overweight by an unnamed UK Athletics official yet still delivered a superb performance. All this after being ruled out of Beijing with a serious injury (stress fracture of the foot) which caused her to change her technique for several events..

Bradley Wiggins. 2012 saw him win Paris-Nice, The Tour de Romandie, the Criterium du Dauphine, the Olympic Time Trial and he became the first ever British winner of the Tour De France.

Sir Chris Hoy. The greatest ever British Olympian and a true Gentleman. Enough said really.

Ben Ainslie. The first person to win medals in 5 Olympic Games. Tough as nails too.

Victoria Pendleton. In her final season before retiring she wins the World Sprint Championship and the Olympic Keirin. Will look good in a short dress on Strictly Cum Dancing too Wink

Laura Trott (my outside bet). Born with a collapsed lung and suffers from Asthma, yet in 2012 she won Gold in the Team Pursuit and Omnium at the World Championships and the Olympic Games. With 2 Olympic Golds at just 20 years old, she will almost certainly beat Chris Hoy's medal total.

And then there are the Paralympians........i'll leave those to someone else Smile

Only 3 things in life are certain. Death, Taxes and lesbians will never look how they do in porn movies.

RE: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012
There was talk a while ago about changing the name of the show/award; from sports personality, to sports person; to stop peeps from complaining when someone with clearly no personality wins it...lol. so suppose that puts murray back into the mix. not my choice to be honest. i couldn't possibly choose one from so many deserving winners; but i'd go with the suggestion of handing the whole TeamGB it; though surely they will be odds on to win the 'team' award in any case..?? aint gonna be the england football team for certain. lol.

wouldnt put murray ahead as the US open is 3rd on the Grand slam list behind Wimbledon and the French

Wiggo has to be ahead cos Tour de france is the big one in cycling even put above olympic medals which he has also won olympics gold
hoy hasnt done it on the road do you think if he went on the road and was a sprint finish between him and cav he would get beaten the majority of the time

that would be interesting for the commonwealth games Cav vs hoy Cav has said he wants to get back on the track for rio so will have to do track championships for 2 years and i think the commonwealth games count

The Womens team pursuit should win the Team of the year 6 championship races 6 world records in a row

True Supporter of Girls and Not Channels !!!!!

I always Keep getting accused of thinking the world revolves around me. . i know it doesnt . . it revolves around the sun which shines out of my arse !!!!!

RE: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012
Think of the Sportmen who probably won't make it onto this years list.

No footballers, no cricketers, no rugby stars, no jockeys, no golfers and no racing drivers (unless something dramatic happens).

And least this year we have had some nobable performances from the ladies.. And if the BBC want to lick ass they may consider including Zara Phillips on their list.

The best team award will be just as hard to predict. Do they go with one of the cycling teams, rowing, tennis or yachting.

And what about the overseas sports personality?
Do they pick Bolt, Phelps or my option of David Rudisha who won the Olympic 800m in a new world record.
