Got Packers @ Rams on Radio 5 sports extra and Cardinals @ 49ers on TV.

Massive momentum swing with a blocked field goal returned for a TD which turned a potential tied game into a 10 point lead for the Niners.

49ers 23 - 24 Cardinals
After seemingly looking in control, at 23-10 in the 3rd quarter, it all unravelled for the Niners. Having already lost kicker Moody before half time the strategy meant that they couldn't rely of on Wishnowsky their stand-in kicker on anything much outside of an extra point. Punting & Kicking field goals are clearly 2 completely different skills. They had to forgo what would've been a failed regulation field goal for Moody & instead failed on a 4th down. 4th quarter mistakes by the Niners were punished, first a Mason fumble deep in Cardinal territory resulted in a scoring drive & a 2 point conversion. Then Purdy had the ball tipped & intercepted in the finals minutes.
I'm not sure if this damaging loss against a divisional rival will be helped by the fact that they now have a short week & must face the Seahawks who suffered a bad loss against the Giants. In a tight division it feels like a must win for both teams even this early in the season.

49'ers blew it.

It should have been a large victory for them instead it's a bad defeat.

I'm trying to put a positive spin on it. Yes we are not quite firing on all cylinders.
As I've said the loss of your kicker played a deciding factor. So much so that I do wonder if teams can find room on their roster for a genuine reserve. I imagine that most if not all would do what the Niners did & manage through the game that the injury occurred & then activate a back-up for the games he will miss. It is so rare that a kicker gets injured in a game.
The 2 SF turnovers were great defensive plays, the ball was punched out on the fumble, not much more can be done to protect it. This is coached & we had a few examples of that last night.
The Int was again great play by the lineman to get his hands up & deflect the ball.
Positives going forward is that Aiyuk finally got over his rust from missing training camp & showed why he was worth a big payout.
Mason continued to run hard & impress until his fumble. The scrambling of Purdy was off the chart at times. Even Brady on comms was impressed.
Negatives would be game/situational awareness from Purdy, it has now been explained by Shanahan that as I suspected Wishnowsky range of kick was PAT length, but twice Purdy had them at that point only to lose ground, the penalty didn't help, but the OTT scrambling exacerbated the situation. That was the game right there, potentially 6 points lost.
A number of areas to clean up, thankfully the Seahawks loss has kept the division close.
SF will be trying out 4 kickers ahead of TNF.

^^ The demise of Saleh was inevitable, despite being Head Coach, you just don't cross Aaron Rodgers, he's notoriously a difficult man to work with. Rodgers should be sacked, he isn't a patch on the player he once was.
