RE: Blu Ray Recommendations
Superman The Movie Extended Cut & Special Edition 2 - Film Collection.

Finally after so many years the Extended Edition is available, this version is over three hours it’s about 3 hours 9 mins long. There are three versions of movie now the theatrical cut, the special edition which is longer and of course the Extended cut. Compared to the Special Edition which was long it’s a extra 40 mins. In the States the Extended Cut was split over two nights and there is a difference from what i’ve seen it doesn’t change the movie more like flesh out the story and characters.
Picture quality wise both films are good and it’s a big improvement over the dvd there is signs of grain here and there nothing to spoil the enjoyment of the movie and it is a 1080p transfer.
Sound quality is good too however it’s different of both versions of the film the Extended cut its 2:0 DTS-HD so it’s not 5.1 it’s still good just not as robust as it could have been the Special Edition 5.1 audio mix.

Extras

Commentary By Director Richard Donner and Creative Consultant Tom Mankiewicz

3 Documentaries: Taking Flight: The Development of Superman, Making Superman: Filming the Legend and The Magic Behind The Cape.

Screen Tests

Restored Scenes

Additional Scenes

Additional Music Cues

Music - Only Track

These extras only on the Special Edition disc version of Superman, no digital copy which is a shame.
As a big Superman fan I had to get this to add to my collection and now it’s finally complete and at £9.99 it’s bargain and highly recommend it.

RE: Blu Ray Recommendations
Shaft (2000)

Starring Samuel L Jackson as the nephew of the original Shaft Richard Roundtree who also is in the movie as his original character. A young Christian Bale, Jeffrey Wright, Toni Collette and Vanessa Williams.
The picture transfer is great it’s a huge improvement over the dvd transfer this is one of the reason why I chose to upgrade this film, everything is highly detailed, deep rich colours especially which when it’s dark good conversion to 1080p. Sound quality is fantastic 5.1/DTS-HD through a home cinema system the movie sounds unbelievable.

Extras

There a bit light:

“Reflections on Shaft” Exclusive Cast and Crew Interviews.

“Shaft: Still The Man” Making of Featurette.

Theatrical Trailer

No digital copy am afraid which is shame. Overall if you liked the film and have it on dvd then it’s well worth the upgrade and did a unboxing of the blu ray.

A superb reworking of Chris Marker's 1962 short La Jetée from Terry Gilliam with good performances from Bruce Willis abs and the gorgeous Madeleine Stowe.

Also bought Jackie Chan's Police Story(1985)and Police Story 2(1988)for £15 from Sainsbury's.

The Changeling(1980)

I managed to find this great film in a St.Leonard's Hospice for £8.

A slow burning chiller from Peter Medak about a grieving composer who unwittingly moves into a haunted house. Lauded by Martin Scorsese and the inspiration to some of the best J-horror films that followed. With a heart breaking turn from George C.Scott.

Extras :

Commentary
Featurettes
Interviews

Star Trek: The Motion Picture

This blu ray steel book was part of 3 for a tenner. This version of the film is cinema version not the directors cut its a shame both versions aren’t on the disc it’s a similar thing with Undiscovered Country which I forgot to mention isn’t the directors cut version again a real shame. This film was also nicknamed The Slow Motion Picture as some felt the film dragged on too long. The front art work is stunning there’s something really striking about the image and colour and title is debossed giving it a 3D effect, if could change one thing it would have given it a gloss finish. The inside and back artwork are the same as the other films in the steel book series.
The picture quality is a 1080p transfer and looks great big and improvement over the dvd version, it’s so detailed you can William Shatner wig lol.
Sound quality is impressive 7.1 Dolby TrueHD transfer and it sounds great through a home cinema system.

Extras

Commentary By: Michael & Denise Okuda, Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens and Darren Dochteman.

The Lomgest Trek: Writing The Motion Picture HD.

Special Star Trek Reunion HD

Starfleet Academy: The Mystery Behind V’ger HD

Blu-Ray Exclusives:

Plus Over 15 Minutes of Previously Released Content.

No digital copy which is a shame, overall highly recommend it.
If you still want the directors cut version of The Motion Picture and Undiscovered Country films you’ll need to pick up the Special Edition DVD’s.

For fans of classic sci-fi you can't go wrong with 2001 : A Space Odyssey (1968)

I bought it from Sainsbury's for £12.

As a part of its 50th anniversary it gets the fill Ultra HD 4K restoration so it looks utterly amazing. The remastering process was supervised by Christopher Nolan and in his words is "the closest recreation of viewing the original film print in your home".
Its still one of the most intense and immersive films that a viewer can experience.

Extras :

Commentary
Documentaries
Interviews
Art cards

RE: Blu Ray Recommendations
Schlock(1973)

Snapped it up for a tenner from WHSmith's.

The debut feature from John Landis, totally madcap with Landis playing the titular character himself or to give its full name Schlockthropus,a prehistoric ape who falls in love with a blind women when he's not killing people. Some of the gags are hit and miss but the Rick Baker ape suit looks quite good and its heart is in the right place.

Extras :

Audio commentary from John Landis and Rick Baker
Q & A
Interviews
Collectable booklet
