Maybe he will be the striker in the first couple of games, because he is useful for defending set pieces and his height could cause France's Rami and Mexes problems

I think TBH i doube if we'l know the answer why Ruio was left out until our participation in Euro 2012 ends when Hodgson will have to face the press and if we don'tr do well then we should direct our anger at the way the FA handled the whole manager issue.
Why they couldn't get it settled sooner is beyond me, but at the same time the press didn't help matters in a way. I think once they (the FA) knew who their man was to be they should have appointed him, and whoever it was let him finish the season with his club.
then had hte press conference. And whoever it was should have drawn up his squad so he knew who he wanted.

The difference between the two is that JT's probably an automatic starter, whereas Ferdinand has only played one game for England for two years. If this was, for example, Gerrard or Cole, who suddenly got dropped get then people would have a point and Hodgson would have something to answer for. As it stands, I do believe Rio hasn't been picked mostly for footballing reasons, although the JT issue will have certainly played a part in his decision making

wow iv noticed im not getting many thanx in this thread lol! just a point between the 2 players over this season, there is some statistics gone up where rio's statistics are far more superior to terrys, where they show when they have both played for their teams that rio has a better clean sheet percentage, not let in as many goals over 90 mins, better tackle success, better possession percentage, and not made has many defensive mistakes as terry! terry just come out on top on the aerial 50-50's! so form wise rio hasnt been dropped, cos england managers do pick people on form do they not? looking at the squad then obviously not!

I'm sure Jonny Evan's statistics would be better than JT's as well as he plays in a team that finished joint top, doesn't mean he's a better CB

However I agree Rio has had a very good season, his best for a couple of years, but so has Lescott, Jagielka, Cahill and Terry (all of whom could still be playing for England at Brazil 2014)

you hav always got an answer aint u lol! i doubt johnny evans statistics are better than terrys thou! even phil thompson is coming out now and john aldridge saying he should have been in the original squad! like thompson said rio is not that far down the pecking order of center backs in this country! he is much better than that, his age is just a load of bollox, especially with lampard being 5 months older than rio! i believe rio has even played more football than gerrard over the last 2 years as well! if people dont wanna agree hodgsons reasons arent football reasons relatin to rio then thats fine, iv made my point again and again so thats it!! martin kelly is also an innocent in all this like rio so wish him the best for the euros if he plays!

this whole jt and ferdinand bs is getting rather childish now. hodgson could save himself grief from the press and tv by not selecting both of them. no matter hodgson did or did not do about jy and ferdinand he would get critised.

if it was me would have them both at home, have the following line up hart; richards or walker, jagielka, cahill, baines; parker, gerrard; lennon, walcott, young; carroll. replace lennon with ox with 20 mins left, sturridge with carroll mins left both got pace and the defenders would be getting tired especially if carroll can use his size and strength to batter the defenders. then 3rd one would to replace any that got injured or is tiring.

Trappatoni is thinking about changing formation by switching to a 4 5 1 against Croatia. I bit late to be changing formation, so close to the Euros. But I think its necessary, as our ordinary, but hard working midfield would be overcome by better midfields. There are three things he can do, play Keane in a deeper position and play Long up front. He could bring on Gibson and just play Keane up front. He could also play Duff in a more central position, put McClean on the wing, Duff should have been on and play Keane on his own up front
