I've just been on avforums and knowing your location saw that several people have received freeview where you live by pointing a high gain aerial or aerial plus booster at the Rowridge transmitter on th Isle of Wight.It's about 25 miles away and your aerial should be horizontal but it may be worth a try. Also there is a site where you put in your postcode and it gives you reception possibility,not like the regular digital site at http://www.wolfbane.com/cgi-bin/tvd.exe I will definately be recording the first show,so you will have your copy!

Thanks on the info Dreamlander, i did phone up a freeview ariel specialist a couple of days ago and they did a check on the signal in my area and it was very very poor, and that picture quality would be very pixelised and only recieve at the most 10 channels with poor reception. Thanks also for the debut copy! I did ask them if i woul;d be wasting money on getting them to fit an ariel and they said at this time yes. So i am really confused as to what to do for the best. I was going to get a freeview dongle for pc and have an ariel fitted.

I think its well worth a try in getting an ariel fitted, like you say people in my area have recieved it with a high gain ariel. When funds are a little more available i think that will be the next step. Thanks Dreamlander you been very helpfull.

It is annoying I know,we didn't have channel 4 down here until 1987! One guy on the AVforums was at the end of his tether and the next poster who lived up the road from him said he had just bought a freeview plasma TV and plugged it into his old aerial and picked up all the channels,weird! I wouldn't believe all that 'experts' tell you though because we have two transmitters near us one with,one without they are in a straight line in front of and behind our house.The one I point at does not have freeview and has vertical transmission,I am getting my freeview from the back of my aerial being transmitted from a horizontal transmitter not yet on full power and about 13 miles away! If funds allow I would give it a go yourself,the transmitter is 100 degrees from north from your location.

I've just done a quick google search, has anyone tried using this service? I don't know if it carries Smile TV 1 & 2 or not... or if they can be trusted.
