Surely it should only be accessible to engineers when the plane is being serviced

Even if there wasn't a cockpit switch it would still be protected by a circuit breaker in case of a fault. It would be a major fire risk to have an unprotected circuit on a plane.

Circuit breakers are just as easy to switch off, even if they are a bit more difficult to get to.

This is a terrible doom scenario and I would be very surprised if it was true, but the nuclear summit is going to be held next week in The Netherlands with 43 world leaders present, including President Obama, the president of China, France, Germany, Japan etc. They will all be there. Gosh I never thought I would be dragged into these fantasy and conspiracy stories. I only hope I'm in the wrong!

Israel has just issued an emergency directive placing its air defences on high alert.

Seeing Israel issue that directive then it's possibly likely that Israel could have been the more likely target if the plane had reached Iran. But if the plane flew around for 8 hours it had to run out of fuel at some point with possibly no chance of refuelling? Something tells me that Iran was it's intended destination. Also would it have flown on autopilot at any point & would that have meant the pilot himself committed suicide?

Perhaps one of the pilots or whoever the hijacker was had the intention of crashing into a landmark in Kuala Lumpur in a 9/11 style attack. The Petronas Twin Towers springs to mind. Reading some of the earlier posts in this thread suggests possible reasons as to why the pilot may have wanted to do this. Hence the turn back to overfly Malaysia with the intention of approaching Kuala Lumpur below radar level via the low level countryside from the Malacca Strait side of Malaysia. That route would leave little chance of the plane being stopped from reaching its target and it could have been one of the scenarios that the pilot had been practicing on his simulator. Why on earth otherwise would the pilot have turned the flight back to overfly Malaysia again if the motive was nothing more than to commit suicide in the Indian Ocean? Think about it for a moment. If the pilot did want to commit an act of terrorism what is the first target that comes to mind? Definitely the Petronas Twin Towers because of the smilarity to 9/11! The point I am getting at is that the plan may have been thwarted over the Malacca Strait. We could speculate on how that happened, crew and/or passengers fighting back somehow and resulting in a forced entry to the cockpit for example, but whatever happened it resulted in the plane being left unmanned with nobody alive to fly it. The plane would then have continued to fly out into the Indian Ocean, running as a ghost plane until it ran out of fuel.
So there is a possibility then the plane was flying on autopilot for several hours if that scenario had happened?

We now hear that the pilot was a RELATIVE of the opposition leader who was jailed on the day the flight took off. HELLO, this is a coincidence?

Exactly. If something went wrong with the hijack as the plane was heading back west, leaving nobody alive to man the controls, the plane would then have flown out into the Indian Ocean as a ghost plane and continued on autopilot for several hours until it eventually ran out of fuel.

I've been looking at the map of Flight MH370's original heading and I believe that the plane's sudden left turn is the key here. This was a very experienced senior pilot and an aviation geek to boot and he would have had all the local airports in his head. That sudden left turn tells me something was wrong with the plane and he turned off the intended heading and made straight for the nearest airport. The turn was towards Palau Langkawi and I assume that despite the problem on board he did not turn back to Kuala Lampur as some would expect because it was an emergency situation and he knew that the Palau Langkawi airport was closer.

That is correct. It's always possible to avoid radar by flying low. It's interesting that so many countries have said the plane definitely didn't enter their airspace, despite the fact that they must inevitably know that if the plane was flying low enough they wouldn't in reality know if it had really entered their airspace or not.

And now there are several reports of a low flying "Jumbo Jet" over the Maldives at 0615 on the 8th of March.
