RE: eUrotic on Sky chat & discussion
Im new to this thread and cant be arsed to read all 145 previous posts (but have read a few pages) so apologies if my speculation covers ground already done to death.

Eurotic is an independent company - are they really willing to submit to Playboy? Or is leasing spare daytime broadcast capacity a compromise both sides can accept?

Theres a lot of talk about encryption cutting in at 10pm. Thats totally in the hands of the channel operator and could be changed at the drop of a hat. The attraction of retaining it is that the rules change at 10pm.

Eurotic piggybacking off the Playboy licence? They dont need to. They already hold an Austrian licence and Ofcom would have their work cut out to try and claim its a fake to get round UK restrictions. If anything Skys stranglehold on 28 degrees constitutes an anticompetitive stranglehold on the UK market, contrary to the EUs Television Without Fronties directive.

Licences are granted to broadcasters, not transponders. All Astra and Sky need to know is that the person taking responsibily for content has a valid EU licence. That could be Playboy or Eurotic. Theres no real reason why a channel cant be operated by two different licence holders at different times of day, like LWT and Thames used to do in London. Or ITV and TVAM.

If eUrotic lease channel space from Playboy then both parties gain - Playboy gets revenue from eUrotic for the lease and eUrotic are spared the expense of setting up their own feed to Astra 28.2 and paying Sky for an epg entry.

Ofcom have made it crystal clear that channel space can be sub-let but licences can't. Therefore, using Red Light as an example, they lease channel capacity from Playboy but when they transgressed recently then it was Playboy that carried the can as the licence holder, and not Red Light.

So the only way that eUrotic can operate under their own Austrian licence is to have their own channel space, paying for their own feed to Astra 28.2 and for their own epg entry. Surely they'd have thought this through and presumably found it unworkable economically?

There'd be no need to channel-share with Playboy if they were providing their own feed, they could take over 908 for instance. And why would Playboy let their channel number be taken over by someone else for several hours a day? They'd have no revenue whatsoever from that. At least now they have advertising revenue when they're not transmitting programme material.

Finally, eUrotic can't transmit a night show in the UK without it being encrypted because it shows full-frontal. Encryption adds even more financial burden to the broadcaster, but the eUrotic night show couldn't pay its way because it's not hard enough to justify a subscription (unless it's part of a package as discussed previously).

You make some good points there. Wink eUrotic only really had one option, and that was to go through another company like Playboy. They are really the only channel with the financial clout to be able to afford to purchase channels outright.

Afterall, I think it cost Elite over 12 Million to buys there's. And that was over 3 years ago. And even they decided to lease the other 3.

You need some serious financial backers to go it alone.

We will just have to wait and see if it's the same feed as they currently use for the dayshows. As some of those text messages that pop up on screen from the vip members, certainly wouldn't pass Ofcom's current rules. laugh

I assume that's the CET broadcast hours you're giving us rather than the UK hours, which would accordingly be 05:30 to 22:00 (there's an hour time difference I believe). That would fit in with what admin said originally when he reported that eUrotic didn't have a 24 hour slot and their broadcasts wouldn't go beyond 22:00.

Actually mainland Europe is one hour ahead of UK time, not behind.

I don't know where Stan got his information about the broadcasting hours from but it's safe to say that as eUrotic are using Playboy/Climax's channel on 915 they'll stop at 2200 UK time, which would be 2300 CET.

This offers an interesting overlap as effectively we'll be getting eUrotic's adult show from 2000 UK time (2100 CET), assuming their adult show kicks in at that time.

There nightshow kicks off at 21:00pm our time. But before you get your hopes up, they are the same as the UK channels and don't show any nakedness for the first hour.

Maybe Stan's times are UCT/GMT whereas we're now on BST - wouldn't that account for the hour discrepancy?

^^^ I don't think so as we move our clocks forward at the same time as mainland Europe does, so they're always one hour ahead of UK time. No doubt Stan will enlighten us!

At a guess i would say Stan got his info from dazaman's forum , the same broadcasting hours were posted on that forum by Mauro .

Both Britain & Central Europe put there clocks forward at the same time. And most times back at the same. Although there have been the odd times when CET time goes back 2 weeks later than us. Under those circumstances you could effectively get an hour of the nightshow in early winter, as there would be two hours difference for the two weeks.

I know this from when the german channels were broadcast from the same satellite as Sky, before Sky changed satellites.
