RE: Dr Who
i liked a lot about the xmas special, was great to see lethbridge stewart dad, i loved watching the first regen form the 10th planet episode, good to see the good dalek again made by Clara and a nice thing for Clare Oswald to give him his memories back but a bit sad she got back to Gallifrey and meet her end,
i am not sure about the last minute as it just left me thinking she cant drive lol i am sure thats not what they where going for, interesting if she has no tardis as she would maybe be earth based i loved the pertwee era, we will see,
and the best bit Steven Moffat is gone at long last, hopefully doctor who can now stop trying to be so clever and just go back to being good fun, viewing figures have fallen a lot under him and they will aging with the new doctor so the new producer needs to get the casual viewers back,

RE: Dr Who
I had stopped watching, but thought I'd give this episode a look given what's happening next, it was a nice end for Capaldi.
I'm pleased that Moffat is gone, he made a lot of mistakes in recent years and should have stepped aside sooner. I hope the new Doctor is given a chance and that the writing, production etc is improved. Nobody wants to see the show be killed off, and they literally have all of time and space to play with, so recycling old characters/stories and being unoriginal (Moffat) is inexcusable...I'm gonna give the new Doctor a fair chance as I think it could be interesting and hopefully fun, if they can find a balance similar to say Tenant, I'll be back on board.

RE: Dr Who
^ Welcome back Skully! Smile

I agree, I thought it was a fitting finale and tribute to Peter Capaldi's Doctor. I have actually enjoyed his take on the character, I found I could relate to Capaldi's doctor more so than I did Matt Smith's.

As you say, what had let a lot of the stories down in the last couple of series was Moffat's reluctance to adapt and evolve in to new ideas. I thought the show's production had lost its way somewhat, become quite gloomy and the constant recycling of old ideas was getting tiresome. Moffat brought us some stories that were too childish (that effing red lobster FFS bladewave ) with Matt Smith's doctor and some stories which were over-complicated and almost depressingly boring with Peter Capaldi's doctor. You're right - he should have stepped aside a while before. Sure, for me he made good stories when working with RTD (Blink, The Empty Child) to name a few, but the ideas on the show had become quite stale. The actors had struggled to work with his plots in recent times.

It needed the change, and I'm praying that this will be the change to revitalise the show. If it's fun, with a nice balance, then bring it on. The Whoniverse awaits. Smile

RE: Dr Who
Watched it last night.
I did feel a little cheated that the sinister 'glass' figures didn't turn out to be evil. And Capaldi's swansong in the Tardis did turn into a bit of a Shakespearean monologue Rolleyes

Overall though, I thought it was good and i enjoyed it Smile

Now I've got used to the idea of a female Doctor I'm quite looking forward to the new series. I just hope they can move her on from the clown costume bladewave I expect they're trying for 'eccentric', but that doesn't really work with women unless they're much older. They should have just gone with a tomboy look.

David Bradley was excellent as the first Doctor. They should think about redoing one of the original stories as a one-off special using him and that recreation of the old Tardis set.

^ I'd like to see a sequel to An Adventure in Time and Space focusing on the behind the scenes story of having to replace Hartnell. Casting Troughton would be mightily difficult mind.

RE: Dr Who
At first I was let down by the finale because nothing really happened and it was a major anti-climax but when I think back to the brilliant The Doctor Falls and how that was the real climatic finish I feel that another episode like that would of worked, this episode was more of a Swansong than a finale. I loved seeing Clara again and loved that Capaldi got a monologue after Matt Smith droned on and on

I am glad that Moffat's time has come to an end the series needs a new direction, I will always be grateful that he gave us Capaldi and 12 though at the same time he squandered him but better to have had him that not of had him at all. I hope Chibnall can do a good job, if it's anything like the first season of Broadchurch then it will be great, however if it's anything like the second then we could be in for much the same as the Moffat era. Personally as a slightly older viewer I loved Season 8 and it's darker narrative which is why I would like to see Jamie Mathieson (Mummy on the Orient Express, Flatline, The Girl who Died & Oxygen) be given the chance as head writer but I understand why they would not do that as it would probably put off large swathes of their viewership

If i could find a girl that had the looks of Gal Gadot, breasts of Sophie Mudd with Demi Rose's ass, the personality of Jessica Ennis, the grace of Kendall Jenner on the red carpet and then behind closed doors the raw sexual energy of Nicole Snow i'd know i was dead and gone to heaven, so i'll just take Demi Rose's ass and Nicole's sexual energy

Whittaker's first scenes as the doctor were filmed the day after the announcement of her casting (July 17th): http://www.radiotimes.com/news/tv/2018-0...announced/

Actors are full of bullshit sometimes...Rolleyes "Trust my instincts" and so forth. You had two words and a pretend fall while lying on a green rug love! The real work was still months away.

I want this transition to succeed but the guy commenting below the article is quite right: The full publicity machine trying to persuade everyone to love her, before we've even seen much of anything, really does the whole thing no favours. Everyone is just so screamingly invested in keeping this cash cow chugging.

Let's just get the autumn here first.

Finally gave in and watched this. It was... watchable.

Alas, Moffat burned out years ago, and his sense of philosophy suggests a man who needs therapy. Or drugs.

And good riddance to Gatiss too!

Oh well, some people are on the pitch...
