RE: UFC
Anything can happen with two Berserkers... Initially, I wondered how the hell Lesnar made it out of that opening round... After watching the fight a second time though, it's clear Carwin was too eager to finish the fight and wasn't landing many punches cleanly. After surviving the opener, there was only gonna be one winner once Brock took Carwin down in the second round.

Caught the Akiyama & Leben fight beforehand, and that was a real good fight too. Would have been a difficult one to score had it gone to the judges...

I'm here to help - if my help's not appreciated then lotsa luck, gentlemen.

RE: UFC
here's a few interesting facts on the usually unknown pay scale, the break down for UFC 116:
Gerald Harris $75,000, KO of the night v Dave Branch
Brock Lesner $400,000 fight purse + $75,000 submission of the night
Shane Carwin $40,000 fight purse + $40,000 had he won
Leben $43,000 + $43,000 win v Akiyama $45,000 + $25,000 had he won
Krzystof Soszynski v Stephan Bonnar & Chris Leben v Yoshihiro Akiyama $75,000 per man fight of the night.

A little step up from Oct 2007 UFC 77:
Silva $60k + $60k win v Franklin $45k
Tim Sylvia $100k + $100k win v Brandon Vera £100k
All other fighters range from $3k to $22k + double for win & $40k for KO, sub, fight of the night, $652,000 total for the full card.
Attendance: 16,054 $2,540,000 =$158 per ticket

UFC 100 Att: 9,793 $5,128,490= $523 per ticket, tickets $100-$1,000, ppv 1,600,000 total fight purse $1,790,000

Dana & the Fertitta's are making some serious money in 2006 the UFC made $222,766,000 so fuck knows what it's making now, UFC 116 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena att: 16000 ticket price $100-$1,000 ppv buy's $50 maybe 1.8-2m + merchandice they could be talking $95m maybe $2m fight purse + staff wages & venue they could still make rough guess $45/50m per event??? not bad for a $2m purchase & a shit load of oppinions changed.

Great post mitchell thanks. really interesting info.

Im astounded that Leben picked up more than Shane Carwin especially seeing as Carwin was in a title fight...The mind boggles Big Grin

RE: UFC
Lesnar picks up more than anyone because he has shares in the events hes on.

Velasquez/Lesnar may happen at UFC 119 but its just rumour at the minute. I dont think Cain will win....i think JDS, baring in mind her defeats Nelson, is the only one capable of beating Brock. JDS will be taken to the floor if Lesnar wills it but hes got a fucking great stand up game.....and a gas tank Wink

RE: UFC
Junior dos Santos is a purple belt BBJ, favorite grappling technique & quote "On my back", he's the same size as Lesner although about 20lb lighter.
The Carwin pay was pre fight & there for may have changed? Leben obviously has a better manager than Carwin? not forgetting the manager & trainer get their cut of the fighters pay.
The UFC has always been criticised for it's pay structure, thats one of the reasons they bought out Pride, so the biggest competition was gone & all the top fighters now have no choice but to go to the UFC, look at Fador if he goes to the UFC he's stuck to a small contract where he can't make any outside fight earnings.

Top fighters now fight about 3 times a year making between about $150-$2m take manager, trainer fees & flight & accommodation the low payed top fighters may get $115,000 per year, top fighters $1.2m & this is where Dana tries to justify it saying the likes of Chuck,Randy & now Lesner are millionaires, yes they are but i think some would rather fight 5 times a year earning $1m total but this would mean 2-3 fighters in 5 weight divisions gettin $1m, & the UFC having to pay $15m per year & thats just to 12 fighters, so you can see why they pay what they do, as tight as they are they are good if not greedy business men.

The bigger the UFC gets , sooner or later they will have to start paying big money like in boxing this will happen in the next 3/5 years & will hit the none US fans HARD! US ppv is $45-$50=£29+£33 i doubt it will cost that more the same as WWE/Boxing £15 but the viewing figures will drop big time, last year UFC Unleashed on ESPN got 34,000 viewers compared to UFC 106 17,000 live 19,000 repeat & TUF finale even less, given the 2am/3am not suprising, as long as they continue to show live events on ESPN for £9 per month for Sky viewers they will have no problem, but as soon as they try to dip into ppv it will all go tit's up.
David Haye v the Russian bear got a good 800,000 SBO but most people like myself are no longer watching Amir Khan as he is now on SBO & £15 for 1 fight that could last 2sec is testicals, a UFC card has 4/5 fights + 3/4 prelims but i still wouldn't pay £15 as with banana or what ever the channel was called £25 setup + £12 per month...err no thats why it went bust, even though the only good thing about ESPN is the prem & UFC i dont mind paying £9 as it's also got other european football & i think it my go for la liga Monday night as sky have brought back Monday night prem games, if ESPN goes for la liga Mon night it will give them more viewers so they won't mind the small UFC live figures.
Anyway sorry for goin on & on & off topic but i got carried away, but as i said at the beginning, you can see why they pay what they do but it will all change soon for the fighters & the fans???... My laptop batteries almost dead & my eyes are goin square so i'll catch you!!!

Against Cain.....its yet another ''Superfight'' but i do think Cain will be defeated. Compared to Carwin's ''dynamite'', Cain's hands are like pillows imo....but his striking seems to improve everytime he fights.

JDS, imo, will be the haters savior Big Grin

I love Carwin, Cain and JDS so if Brock loses to Cain or JDS then i'll be happy.

RE: UFC
Yeah like i've already said i think dos Santos will be Lesners true test, they have both gotta win their next fights first of which dos Santos faces Roy Nelson, i was one of many that hated 'Big Country' on TUF, but don't mind him now.
I don't know if it's true but he is meant to be a black belt BBJ + he has good standup & shaolin kung fu, but the guy's main threat is the same as Lesner, get them down sit on them & g&p, i'd like to see it.
