Rishi Sunak - and his miserly Government

Why is absolutely none of this a surprise to me whatsoever? The Tories as a parliamentary party are an absolute shambolic rabble riddled with sleaze, alleged misdemeanor and countless error of judgement.

Sunak is at the head of all this and made some highly questionable appointments to his cabinet that have done nothing to help the PM in obliging his commitment that in his words said "this government will have integrity, professionalism and accountability at every level.".
Braverman with breaches of the ministerial code, Raab with allegations of bullying under investigation and now Zahawi.
Add to this hiring that well established snake in the grass Gove and the inflatable dartboard esque Foreign Secretary Cleverly and all notions of integrity, professionalism and accountability go hurtling out of the nearest window at alarming speed.

These people were appointed not on the grounds of competence but as a combination of two things.
1. Old pals act
2. The view that certain troublemakers can best be contained in the cabinet than outside on the backbenches.

In essence Sunak has made purely political and personal judgement over what is actually prudent and in the interests of good government. And his judgement has been found wanting.
Sir Geoffrey Howe remarked in his devastating resignation speech all those years ago to see off Mrs Thatcher that style and substance are very often two sides of the same coin.
Sunak seems incapable of understanding that is perhaps more the case now in this modern social media led age than it was even back then. No matter how noble he may think his aims to be, policy can be distorted if carried out against the backdrop of unhealthy background noise by people who for whatever reason have their own competence, judgement or both in doubt to the extent that is seemingly prevalent in this current administration.

To my mind the Prime Minister has seen his reputation damaged, his authority undermined and his judgement found to be deeply flawed since taking office.
