Ok enough nicey nicey diplomatic Snooks. This post has been held in long enough.
And to those who accuse me of being a misery guts and doing the country down having read this post I invite you to fuck off and keep fucking off until you see sense and realise just how shit everything is.
The reality is the entire social system is in a dismal state of disrepair.
Nothing works properly.
Nothing is fit for purpose.
You name it it's a failure.
Hospitals, surgeries, schools, universities, prisons, pensions, social care, benefits, child maintenance, HMRC, immigration system, passport office, DVLA.
I could go on and on and remorselessly and relentlessly on in listing the pathetic and abysmal symbols of utter failure that are not the fault of those humble servants that work in those areas but are rather a damning indictment on the failure of government policy over many decades and the degree of human selfishness, hypocrisy, greed and double standards of some citizens of this country. These factors have caused unnecessary, growing inequality of opportunity and of access to even the most basic of need.
To characterise it merely as the gap between rich and poor being stupidly high is both a monumental understatement and an utterly disingenuous failure to recognise that wealth is about more than just money.
Then I reflect on how humble servants within our country are driven further and further into feeling hopeless, undervalued, unable to cope and resigned to increased systemic failure that leaves ordinary people in peril, poverty, ill health and in a terminal state of life decline.
Our GPs can't cope, our hospital doctors can't cope, our nurses can't cope, our surgeons can't cope, our anaesthetists can't cope, our paramedics can't cope, our teachers can't cope, our head teachers can't cope, our university staff can't cope, our police can't cope, our court system can't cope, our prison officers can't cope, our firefighters can't cope, our social services can't cope, our councils can't cope. Once again I could produce an endless list of all the people who serve the public unified in their feeling that says 'We can't bloody cope. FFS do something. We are all struggling to breathe let alone actually do any good for people.' That frustration is heartfelt. It matters.
They enter such public-spirited professions because they want to try and help the weak, the disadvantaged, the disenfranchised, the lost, the forgotten and the relatives of those who have lost their lives unfairly and unduly. They want to make a difference. But their power to do so is largely out of their control.
Their work is on the whim of whichever buffoons elected to highest of cabinet government office and at the mercy of policy that so often fails and fails again to accurately understand the struggles and toils of every Joe and Jill Bloggs.
Can't get a GP appointment, can't get a decent school place for my child, can't afford the rent, can't live on Universal Credit, can't get the police to do anything about kids wreaking havoc because they have nowhere to go and nothing to do. Can't get my passport for ages, can't get my hip replaced for an eternity.
The culture of can't is the culture of failure.
An indication that there is a waiting list for everything and an ensuing victim list far higher in number. Justice taking too long. Hillsborough, infected blood, The Post Office etc etc etc.
Not enough prison places, not enough hospital beds, not enough GP appointments, not enough crime detected, not enough resource and initiative to prevent reoffending. The culture of not enough. Once again with interminable human cost.
And what do we see instead at times of national and international crises.
The actual need for Food Banks!!
Seriously? Food banks. Is this the extent of miserable demise and feeling of humiliation that the people of these isles should have to accept?
Detrimental climate change with ordinary working people being told all the things they need to do to mitigate against it a lot of which they could only dream of having the time, opportunity and money to achieve.
No amount of lecturing increases opportunity. It merely increases frustration and the feeling of disconnect from 'The System'.
The Scottish independence and Brexit referendums.
Both borne out of isolationist vitriol, bile and bullshit at a time when the need for people to stick together was and remains never greater.
Asking folk whether they want to break away from everything and everybody is the ultimate in misguided, self righteous navel gazing and does nothing but increase division, rancour, nastiness and self obsession.
Isolationism is a recognition of defeat and a fast track to civil war.
The lessons of history should tell us all that the need to stick together is crucial. To defeat evil, to defeat inequality and to raise people's hope and self esteem for all the right reasons. And to show the most honourable love for humanity.
Time. Resource. Money. What I call the TRM principle.
All three are inextricably linked. In my personal and professional life the most common complaint of folk is that they feel a lack of all three.
People running around like demented chickens desperately chasing their own tails in a futile pursuit of the interminably impossible.
They don't have the time to do things because they don't have the quality or quantity of resource to make the time. And they don't have the resource because there simply isn't the money available to provide the resource.
Yet people carry on. At least in part because there is no choice.
We all have to carry on keeping on carrying on in a vain hope for some divine intervention that grows money on trees and common sense descending from the sky like the most useful drug ever made.
Yet all that actually falls from the sky is rain in ridiculous quantities causing flooding and more unbearable human suffering and cost.
Or alternatively heatwaves where everyone complains it's too fucking hot I can't bear it. All the consequence of climate change that the selfish, stupid and misguided claim is just some sort of 'woke' conspiracy to get people to do what the establishment wants them to do.
No doubt COVID was a myth too so lets all charge around like a bunch of delusionally entitled ubercunts shouting "What about me?".
We cannot carry on like this.
Yet I fear there is no government, no Prime Minister no matter how nobly intentioned as they may be that has a hope of resorting to anything but what Keir Starmer himself referred to as 'sticking plaster politics'.
I rather suspect that sticking plasters are all government of any persuasion has left. Reallocate funds and resource around from one disastrously failing part of the social system to another in the increasingly dubious hope that people don't cotton on to the fact that everything is so monumentally shite there isn't actually much point
.
And what is worse is that many countries are in an even worse state than we are. It is hard to know whether to feel grateful for that or feel condemned to eternal doom and anger about the state of this country.
And so endeth the lecture of depression, doom and despondency as Snooks buggers off to admonish himself for being such a miserable cunt on one hand and equally lambasts his inability to say how he feels in a few hundred words rather than a a few trillion on the other.
I shall go and stand in the corner and give myself a severe reprimand.
Goodnight.
