Jon jones will now fight Vitor Belfort on sept 22nd after Machida turned down the fight.

also dissapointed the event got cancelled but think jones is going mad a bit of a scapegoat. Its not his repsonsibility to make sure an event goes ahead, if he wants to make decisions on whats best for him, thats his decision. Dana once again throwing a childish little tantrum and throwing jones under the bus.

Very eventful with the changes and what led to them. White blasted Jones and Jackson, possibly his biggest ever rant. Sonnen comes out of this looking great willing to fight on eight days notice.

According to Sonnen he's the highest paid fighter in the UFC and he took the fight to help out the sport.

I think he rightly comes out of this looking good. He's a fighter who would fight anybody, any place, anytime. That's what it's all about. Jones is an unbelievable talent but he already said he didn't want a rematch with Machida and now he's turned down a fight with Sonnen! You can't do that as a champion and expect people to respect you.

Here's what he said that's turned him into a bit of a hero overnight.

"I have fans and friends and people I don't even know who are flying in to see this. There's people who have had to take time off work, save money, find babysitters, all so they can go out and see the greatest show known to man: a live UFC. There are fighters on the undercard who are quite literally depending on this $5,000 or $10,000 guarantee they get for showing up and walking out there and competing in the hardest sport in the world just to keep their lights on next month. And there's a domino effect from there. Those guys have managers and gym dues and sparring partners [for whom] the $75 or $100 they get is the difference between a meal or not. This is a huge deal. This is so much bigger than one bratty, entitled kid named Jon Jones."

Do you think it was easier/financially better to replace Jones with someone else and remarket the show at late notice (accepting that there will be some who will refund anyway) or cancel the show completely?

Well well fucking well, this is the first I've heard of all this having had a quiet 2 days on the net.

I've never really took to Jon Jones anyway but refusing to fight on a few days notice it just pathetic! He’s a world renound champion who's shown he's shit scared of fighting an enigmatic fighter who everyone knows is more talented with his mouth than his MMA skills.

Why did Machida not take the fight? I could see a point in him wanting to prepare for Jones given the task. It's a bit different from Jones preparing for Sonnen.

I've come to like Chael Sonnen since the pre & post Silva rematch, he's not a great fighter but is a proper cunt but has shown he can be realistic i.e. after the Bisping & Silva post fight interviews.

Dana has made himself look a bit silly with a show all about 1 fight, no American would pay $50 for the rest of the 151 card.

Vitor's my favorite fighter so I can't wait to see him fight for the title, eventhrough I think he'll get beat especially due to the size difference.

I'd have stripped him of his title for refusing the Sonnen bout and put on a winner takes the title fight as main event for UFC 151 between Sonnen and somebody else that was in shape for a fight at a weeks notice. I'm sure they'd have been knocking White's door down for a shot! That would've added some excitement for everyone that was disappointed about the Jones fight. Something like that might have saved the show.

Just read that Anderson Silva offered to step in and save UFC 151. He supposedly would have fought anyone at LHW. Rumour is the event had been cancelled 2 hours before they made the offer.

That's a very interesting decision, because it is exactly what I would have done. Not only strip him (as he can't represent the UFC as champion if he is such a pussy) but fine him/prevent him from fighting for a certain period of time, as he should see how much he has hurt his sport. A UFC 151 main event for a now vacated title, with Sonnen in one of the corners would have been epic!
