United were widely reputed to be after him since around Christmas time,
I've kept an eye on him since then but to be honest I've not seen a potential £20m player whenever I've watched Sunderland,
Just goes to show that at the end of the day, us fans are the only ones who truly get it and know what support is all about and that the vast majority of players are just mercenaries.
I don't know how much we payed as the fee has been classed as undisclosed (I hate it when they do this) but if David Ngog goes to Sunderland then the £4m-£5m they pay will just be knocked of the Henderson price, why it wasn't money plus Ngog is a bit silly.
Utd were widely reputed to be after him at Christmas & since then he's not been great when you've watched him, well I think this might have something to do with the fact that Sunderland in general haven't been great since Darren Bent left for Aston Villa in errr January.
As for a reported £20m, Michael Carrick £18m, Anderson £18m, Juan Sebastián Verón £28m, Dimitar Berbatov £30m (No he's not) not to mention all the player that have been at or are still at Chelsea, Man City & Real!!!
Jordan Henderson is a young English player & since Chelsea, Man City & Real Madrid started driving up the price of oxygen then all the rest of us will just have to suffocate in their shitty mess as from now on all English players especially young ones will cost you a packet.
Andy Carroll was different as I've said in the Liverpool thread as we got £50m & spent £35m of it on him so realistically we made a profit (On the transfer anyway) & as far as the story was I think it was us who offered £30m & Newcastle said no thinking the price can then only go higher.
As you say a reported £20m, well the reported fee for Ashley Young is around £15m-£20m this is a bit silly given he's out of contract in 12 months, we sold Michael Owen for £8m with the 1 year left & are reported to be looking at a bid of only £5m for Gael Clichy who is out of contract next year.
As for
"mercenaries" if a player is at a team like Sunderland & given their form after seeing their goalscorer leave then a player like Henderson is always gonna leave when offered an opportunity like we've given him, look at Chris Smalling or even possibly Ashley Young most fans just use the money situation against a player as it's the easiest thing to do but a players career only lasts around 15 years & they have a right to make the best of it, unless it's an Ashley Cole situation who was bitching about money then you can use the mercenary tag, I thought Torres was a tw@t when he left but only as I thought he went to try & get instant success & showed a lack of fighting spirit or patience for another 5 months but I never thought he was a mercenary.
