RE: Ofcom Discussion
Well just for the record ED Richards was appointed head of ofcom in October 2006 and within 2 months of his tenure his organisation revoked the licence of Babestar TV which was in January 2007. Coincidence or what ?

It was also at that period when ofcom declared war on the babe channels by coming up with the rulebook which we are seeing at present. Up to that point although ofcom didn't like adult entertainment they tolerated it to a certain extent.

Let's be honest surely whoever takes his position as head of ofcom can't be as bad assuming he gets the job at the BBC, maybe the person in question might be more open for change and a mediation between all the channels could be a realitic way forward.

I've always mantained that change at boardroom level can be seen as a postive step, maybe the next person in charge might just be a bit more open and liberal minded. Surely they wouldn't want to be seen as a copy cat of ED. He/she will want to put their own mark on the job.

My only hope is that it is swung in the favour towards this type of entertainment being given greater freedom. Ultimately it will be change for the better or worse, I have my fingers crossed that the channels finally get the breathing space and freedom that they haven't had for years.

I think we have to hope that the Government and Ofcon will not be so fearful of sexual imagery and allow the British people to grow up, as our friends & neighbours in mainland Europe have been allowed to do.

I don't think the UK is going to become one debauched society just because people see a dildo actually go into a fanny, instaed of watching it from the side.

Ed Richard appointed head of Ofcom, and almost immediately North Korea tests a nuclear bomb. Ethiopia flooded. Swedish roll-on roll-over ship full of lubraction oil sinks. Gazprom double cost of fuel to Georgia. Australia sends warships to Fiji. Power cuts in large parts of France and Germany. And thats just up to Nov 5th. Scary, dont mess with the man.

Is it all down to one man? It would be interesting to know if he was given an objective when he got the job, and who gave it to him. If it is all down to him did he have known views before or were they a surprise? Remember that as Chief Executive he is responsible for running the organisation, but ultimately policy is set by the Board, and he answers to them. They have the power to say resouces are being focussed overzealously in one area.

Was there some kind of instruction from the DCMS, the Home Office or even Number 10?

Is it possible that appointments to the Board and the Content Committee tend to go to people who "display a clear understanding of the work of the Content Committee" and are procensorship?

If it is just him it is abuse of power, but it could run through the institution.

Does anyone know if there was any outside influence?

RE: Ofcom Discussion
Whatever was shown on Chat Girl TV X on the 6th of November it resulted in more than Ten separate complaints being made to Ofcom about the same incident, this is unusual these days for babe shows to have this many complaints made about a single broadcast, usually when i check out Ofcom broadcast bulletin's and a babe channel is mentioned as having a complaint made against them it's normally just a single complaint or 2 at the most, Chat Girl received more than Ten .

{edit} so the 14 at the end of the Date that complaints were made against Chat Girl means 14 complaints , i have only just noticed and realised that lol, Ofcom only mention in this weekly statement made on their website the channels/program that receive more than 10 complaints by the way , so other babe channels could have had complaints made against them but Ofcom haven't listed them .
This complaints Statement mentioned by eccles is just a weekly complaints statement by the way and not a Broadcast Bulletin were Ofcom lists all complaints and investigations , so until the next Broadcast bulletin comes out we don't know if Ofcom has decided to investigate Chat Girl or not .

RE: Ofcom Discussion
I agree this is quite an alarming development. Usually the standard single complaint comes from a rival channel owner, so for 14 separate complaints to be lodged it must've been something significant, yet nothing was mentioned here as far as I know.

Do we know whether all the complaints were made on or near the same day? Perhaps it's Jamie and friends up to their old tricks again.

Edit: I've just been on the Ofcom site to answer my own question and there's no detail at this stage, just the transmission date and number of complaints.

^^^ Well all the complaints were made between the dates of the 6th and the 12 of November, so even more complaints could have been made for the same incident and be mentioned in the next weekly complaint bulletin .

RE: Ofcom Discussion
Almost every member as written something appertaining to Ofcom since the vice tightened, and TV went North Korean style. What chance as any protester of getting any sort of broadcasting freedom back to the channels. Let me tell you, "fuck all". Not when channel 4 as buckled to the self appointed rulers of our moral well being and have come to the conclusion that the dresses that the numbers girl, "Rachel Riley" (Countdown) will be wearing should all be vetted for 'suitability" before she can appear on our screens. So for all you boys who want a bit of dildo play on the adult channels, I'm afraid you may as well go piss into the wind, because you are not going to get it.
