Which you may not have in the event of an electrical fire, as an electrical fire could easily knock your communications out, including the transponder and the reporting system.

I think it's because the idea of the plane flying across the Indian Ocean didn't make any sense to start with, when it was heading to China which is in the opposite direction. The Malaysian authorities ignored the satellite data for that reason, thinking it just had to be wrong. Eventually they figured out that the plane had turned back on its course and it's only then that they realised the significance of Inmarsaat's information.

The Americans started looking towards the South a few days after the Aircraft went missing. You would think that someone might have thought it was worth passing the info onto them.

There is a man from Inmarsaat on Newsnight now, should be interesting.


Well, from what he said, it seems that a couple of days were wasted before any response was made to their info, and that it wasn't passed on to other country's who were helping, particularly China.
And they were pointing out how far the wreckage could drift, even with a light current.

How are background checks on the passengers coming along? Have they all turned up as nothing suspicious?

Apparently the US Navy P8 can search 2500 square miles per hour and they expect to be on station for 3+ hours at a time. Quite an impressive piece of kit.

Yes very impressive. Too bad they don't have satellite imagery from the early morning of 8 March. They probably would have caught the entire plane, not just bits of debris. This would be much easier to spot and would have been anywhere between 5,000 and 35,000 feet closer to the satellite. From the plane's heading they would also have a better idea of where they should be looking now.

it also doesn't help that the island they crash landed on can actually disappear and reappear in a completely different location on the planet.

Looks like to me now that the only people here not telling the truth are Malaysian Airlines themselves. It is now about time they shared whatever information they haven't released before with the world. And to put it bluntly 200+ innocent people have died or gone missing. and frankly to me it seems the Airline is holding back some
information. How or why they chose to ignore the information from Inmarsaat is beyond me.

The US have acknowledged that they are now in possession of $7 billion of Ukraine gold for safe keeping, but Ukraine's gold reserves stood at $10 billion, which gives the impression that China's request for $3 billion of the gold has been met.
