He sent this out to Hammers fans today.....
We didn't get our first win against Aldershot Town last night because we went down to ten men. When you go down to ten men it is difficult to win a game of football.
Nothing to do with being out played, even before the man got sent off then? We were allowed to attack you through the middle and from wide positions, I was suprised how fragile WH looked. Plus you had chances to change the set up to deal with a sending off but chose instead to replace your in-effective front line.
Even if the opposition are not in the same division it gives them a massive lift. We were one-nil up and comfortable, and unfortunately Callum McNaughton who has been given his debut and doing all right, gets caught out and was sent-off.
If you consider that comfortable then you really are a pathetic joke of a manager. I'm glad you were never given the England position and ever since you left the Bolton job you have been papering over the cracks.
After that they are going to try and push on. We have to try and defend what we have got because we were one-man short and we couldn't hold out in the end. It is very disappointing of course but I don't think we would have lost if it had stayed eleven v eleven. I think we would have gone on and won it.
We had to attack regardless being 1-0 down due to a stunning curling long distance shot that unfortunately took us all by surprise. With the likes of Kevin Nolan, Matt Taylor, Faubert, Carew, Piquionne, Stanislas, Barrera, Sears and McCartney on the pitch you would think that would more then make up for the one man disadvantage against poor little Aldershot!
I didn't want it to go extra time and we got a chance to sneak a late goal with Matt Taylor but it wasn't to be.
It was a good chance as well... shame
Overall, I thought we could have created more in the first half, and perhaps we should have done a little better in and around the box.
Did we watch the same game ?
It was a good opportunity for me to see some of the players I haven’t seen playing a competitive game and for those that have joined us late to attain the match level of our visitors. Some of our players are still catching up to their match level.
Looking to attain the same level of fitness as a lowly league 2 side....
We had to make changes because of the nature of our league and the accumulation of games meant a lot of players has played three very highly competitive games in one week and if we want to go and get a result at Nottingham Forest, I had to think about that.
Notably dropped were Parker and Green, but if you consider that performance highly competetive then enjoy life in the Championship chump
I also had to have a look at the players I have inherited and those I have brought in. I have done that and seen what they are about.
Pass the buck....
The team we picked was good enough to have beaten Aldershot and I don’t think we would have lost had we kept eleven on the field.
It should have, but it didn't, accecpt some resposibility you twat!
Come on you Irons!
This comes from a post match interview last night...
"It's simple, we lost because we went down to 10 men, We would have won the game if it had stayed 11 v 11 - that's the reality. I live in reality while most people in football live in perception."
Well we live in facts, and the fact is Sam, that we won 2-1 and were the better side.
Edit, just to add, this was the same bloke who a day before predicted sticking 6 past us, yet couldn't even be gracious in defeat and offer any compliments to ATFC for a great performance.
