Maybe a corner has been turned on the bad results and the good results will keep coming. I'm rooting for Judd this afternoon, and Jak this evening.

Neil Robertson is not inline for a Masters place now that Hawkins has knocked him out of the top 16. Jak Jones can knock Hawkins out of the top 16 for now if he can beat Michael Holt tonight.

A pity about Wu, not someone I've seen much of otherwise; he did well to win 4 in a row, and less well to lose 4 in a row.

Even when Lisowski led 4-1. I expected Carter would come back; Lisowski needs to swat aside these "yesterday's men" more often.

Judd Trump eventually edged out John Higgins this afternoon in an engrossing contact that fluctuated from excellent tactical play to a slew of big breaks. It was tight all the way but some heavy scoring from Trump at the business end of the match told and he won 6-5.

Zhang Anda produced a sensational recovery against Stuart Bingham from an early 1-5 deficit.
Balllrun dominated early on and powered into a big lead helped by runs of 101 and 105.
But Zhang stormed into top gear and helped by breaks of 81, 70 and 108 roared back to win 6-5.

I'm on a roll! The complete opposite of yesterday afternoon, with both players I was rooting for this afternoon winning a last frame decider. Zhang with that brilliant come back, Judd with that fantastic 106 break in the decider.

Tonight I'm rooting for the Silent Assassin to silence the Hitman. Rob Walker called Chris Wakelin the newly established media sensation. I don't think that'll stick as a nickname. He'll have to come up with something shorter and to the point.

Kyren Wilson dispatched Chris Wakelin with minimal fuss this evening 6-2.

Meanwhile Michael Holt staged what seemed an implausible fightback from nowhere to beat Jak Jones 6-5. Jones looked solid as he surged into a 5-2 lead but then his game became littered with errors with the finish line in sight and Holt ultimately took advantage to claim an unlikely victory.

Sucker punch indeed. Jak was preparing for his victory speech, then the Hitman took him out. Jak now out of the Masters.

It'll take a herculean effort for Jack Lisowsi to make the Masters. Jack was a semi-finalist in he 2022 UK Championship, narrowly missing out 6-5 to Mark Allen. Because Jackpot lost the 35000 ranking points he earned 2 years ago at the start of this year's tournament, all he's been able to manage thus far is to maintain his 21st position. He'll need to get his revenge on Mark Allen this evening to stand a chance of making the cut, otherwise Hawkins is likely to make the Masters whether he beats Tubbs or not.
