You'd think though, nowadays, especially at international level a manager would be able to set up his side not to ship silly amounts of goals like that.Maybe 5 or 6 at worst!
They must just be a hopeless side.
The Dutch are the number one ranked team in the world according to FIFA so they should be hammering the likes of San Marino.
Mind those same FIFA rankings have England at number four.
Don't get me wrong I wish England were drubbing every other team on the planet but even I know we are not the fourth best team in the world.
Tiki, tiki, tiki, they are still the best team in the world, taka, taka, taka.

The Result - Spain 12 Malta 1 --- Hmmm.
Here's an article from the Guardian's excellent "Joy of Six" series, about Euro Qualifiers, which includes that Spain-Malta game.
If we're talking about great stitch-ups, we have to mention West Germany v Austria in 1982, when they got a result which meant both teams qualified for the next round. It involved the Germans getting an early lead and then neither team trying for the rest of the match. It was this match which led to the rule that all final group matches must be played simultaneously.
As for Holland-San Marino, there's nothing fishy about that one. It's just what happens when a very good team comes up against a very bad team. There is no benefit to having the likes of San Marino, Liechtenstein and Malta playing the big boys in every qualifying tournament. They should at least earn the right to play them by having a pre-qualifying stage, as happens in Africa and Asia.

Netherlands 11 San Marino 0
It was their biggest ever defeat by 1 goal. Since their first official game in a Euro 92 qualifier on 14 November 1990 which they lost at home to Switzerland
0-4 they've lost all but two of their games 1-1 v Latvia 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifier & in 2003 they drew 2-2 in a friendly with Liechtenstein, this was the only time they've scored more than 1 goal in a game.
In 94 games they've lost 92 & drawn 2, scored 16 & conceded 418, average per game 4.45
Belgium are top of the tree with 33 goals in 6 games.

Roll on that Brazil 2014 qualifier.
