maybe, but it could also mean they knew they were going to come into atleast 35 million from the sale of torres and could afford to up their offer, but as a "liverpool" fan you have lived in denial for quite a while and its hard to break the habit Big Grin

It's the Asian cup final today.
Australia v Japan.

Wouldn't it be interesting if Australia won, as they aren't part of Asia.

RE: Football Banter
I can't vouch for the reputations of the people who spoke with him, but certainly the following came from a very reputable fanzine:

Recently, whilst holidaying in Tenerife, a group of lads met Jamie Carragher at the resort where both parties were staying. They got chatting to Carragher, who's recovering from his injury sustained at Tottenham, and he was going on about what a good player Andy Carroll is, about how difficult he is to handle, and how he'd love to have him in the Lliverpool team. At this point one of the lads said: "but you've got Fernando Torres, who when he's on form is one of the best strikers in the world." To which Carragher is alleged to have replied: "Fuck him - he can fuck off!".

I've seen Torres four times at Old Trafford; the first couple of times he stood out for me, even in the Easter Sunday 3-0 defeat of a couple of years back, but in the last couple of matches he has looked somewhat disinterested and well off the pace. I don't know the ins and outs of all this, but if Carragher did actually say the above, then he's in a much better place to judge than most of the rest of us. And don't forget, Carragher is the sort of man who bleeds his club and would expect nothing less than that of his teammates.

Having faced the same sort of situation with Cristiano Ronaldo a couple of seasons back, in the end the only cause of action was to cash in on him. From my admittedly outsider's point of view, if I was a Liverpool fan I'd be snatching Chelsea's hand off for some of the reported money being offered for a player who seems to have become more and more injury-prone over the past couple of years now - both physically and mentally.

The reason why Israel play in the European World Cup qualifying groups is because some time ago (1940s/50s I think) it became politically impossible for them to play any of the Arab nations. They became outcasts and FIFA decided to let them play in the European qualifying tournaments instead. It's just another example of politics, religion and sport mixing together when they shouldn't.

Israel are members of UEFA because many of the Arab countries refuse to play them. There are other Asian countries that play in European competitions e.g. Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, because they get more money from playing qualifying matches against teams like England and Germany than they would in the Asian competitions.
As for Australia, they joined the Asian confederation because that way, it's easier for them to qualify for World Cups.

Edit: lindor just beat me to it!
