RE: THE MASTERS
I agree with that mate. Just find it hard to say that some of those darts guys are sports men. But ur rite about the co ordination and the pressure.

Off topic from the thread, I know. I don't class any game or pastime where you cannot have a direct impact on the result as a sport. Anything that includes judging, e.g. figure skating, diving is not a sport. Similarly, Darts and Snooker fall into this category there is no direct contact. You may as well say that Dominoes or Ten Pin Bowling is a sport but you cannot influence the play of your opponent a la Football, Rugby, etc.

You must be joking. In darts you can put your opponent under incredible pressure if you leave your self on a finish. The target seems to become a lot smaller I can tell you. Going by your reasoning you could say golf is not a sport you dont have direct influence over your opponents shots but you can sure put him under intense pressure and thus affect the quality of his play.

I don't think golf is a sport. It is another pastime. Don't get me wrong I like watching darts and golf on the telly but to compare Taylor or Woods to people like Federer, Navratilova, Borg, Muhammed Ali, Jason Robinson, Sean Fitzpatrick, Don Bradman, Viv Richards, Ian Botham where their opponents can have a direct impact on their performance is spurious.

RE: THE MASTERS
For me its where there is direct confrontation there is a sport, and as long as there is coordination involved than it is a sport. Darts and golf the confrontation may be more psychological and mental rather than physical but it still makes it a sport.

Look at football. In practice those boys would knock in penalties for fun but when you are playing in front of a packed house, and the stakes are high suddenly the simple act of a penalty becomes an intensely difficult act to perform. Holding your nerve under pressure I think is an integral part of sport as the physical prowess required to perform it. Those sports previously mentioned require you to be able to hold your nerve under the most severe pressure.

Hey setter1000,

You have a point. Good discussion. At least we can be polite about this and not resort to flaming. Cheers.

You had to bring up penalties before a World Cup.

RE: THE MASTERS
So, back on topic. Poulter or Westwood? I just favour Westwood myself, he's come very close a few times and deserves a major. I think Poulter will win one before too long but I hope it's Lee's week this time.

I don't know where you magic pixies came from, but I like your pixie drink!
