I'm also getting extremely slow speeds on the board tonight. it's taking up to two minutes to load a page, and I'm getting 404 errors.

I find the board in general very erratic. There have been periodic improvements by admin/the hosting company but then it just slips back into slow mode again.

I just wondered why the board is hosted in the States? Cost I suppose. Perhaps time to charge a small fee admin?

Here's my traceroute: mine timed out (twice) after the hop to networklayer.com, so I never even got to theplanet.com, as others did. The problem does seem to be on the other side of the pond.

The Forum tonight is without doubt the worse it has ever been. And yet when I did another trace, it showed nothing wrong, just like Muckers. And it can't be due the the number of people accessing the site, as that is just over the 1000, and we have had a lot more than that in the past, and it was never this slow.

Although, looking at Digital Daves trace, it's this forums server that has timed out on his. So maybe it is a problem with the forum this time.

Yes, that's the error message I've been getting.

All very weird, especially as there are not more people posting to mention the slow speeds.

thats a server bandwidth issue. this is a genuine site error as there wasnt that many people on the site and less than 1000 guests.
the site has been moronically slow tonight. gettin on wasnt really a problem for me but 1s off the main menu it slowed to a crawl... often where i just gave up and clicked on another link. end result i didnt bother posting what i was gonna.
so yeah the site was having an issue last night.

my guess would be that the sites allocated bandwidth has been used up. if not its being managed so the server host can give more bandwidth to another client. they often do this with old account holders in preference to new as a short term way of making money, but in the long term it will cost them business as its likley that old accounts will move on to a different host.

Thanks for reporting that error message. If it happened persistently it should be easy to find in the server logs. Hopefully the cause of it can be ascertained quickly together with the solution to the problem.

A number of changes have been made on the server today to hopefully eliminate the error messages which occurred last night. If anyone gets an error message today please report it (with the time it occurred) so it can be looked into, but I'm hoping that the changes made today will have fixed the 'internal server error' problem.
