It really is silly season.....Isn't it?
Chelsea have almost completed Luis Suarez transfer for €40m, agent up to mischief?
Last night there were rumours on social networks that Arsenal were on the verge of signing Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, largely due to claims made by betting companies that odds had been slashed on the deal because of a large influx of bets. That probably caused another large influx of bets and sometimes seems to be how these things work.
It didn't make sense. Suarez had said that he wanted to leave England due to the pressure put on him and his family by the media in the country and if he simply moved to another club in the Premier League it would make that claim seem to be dishonest. It certainly wouldn't go down well with Liverpool fans.
What wouldn't go down well even more is a move to Chelsea and according to AS in Spain tonight, that's almost completed. They say that a €40m move is on the verge of being finalised and that Luis Suarez is set to become a Chelsea player. They go further and explain that it would help Jose Mourinho get one over on his old club Real Madrid who had reported to have been interested themselves.
Suarez's agent, Pere Guardiola, is mentioned which is maybe where the Spanish connection comes in and AS say that the player would earn €5.5m a year at Stamford Bridge.
It doesn't appear to add up, AS put the article out on their English and Spanish sites at roughly the same time and there's usually quite a lag between the two, it's almost like someone wants it to be a big story in England. Surely Liverpool wouldn't sell their best player to Chelsea, knowing the trouble that it would bring?
AS aren't big fans of Jose Mourinho so it seems odd that they'd so happily explain that Jose Mourinho was getting one over on their beloved Real Madrid, if it was true.
And the amount regarding wages seems too low too, it would work out at around £90,000 a week and even if that was tax free, it's not that much in the scheme of a huge move from Liverpool to Chelsea, as Fernando Torres would be able to explain.
This appears to be an agent trying to get his client right back into the rumour mill, and a more conventional way of doing it than the player himself speaking out. On the other hand it could be that Chelsea feel they have lost out on Cavani and want a big signing.
It all sounds a little crazy.
