^ the real majority is 12 I think because Sin Fein don't turn up in Parliament. On their own or with any other combination of non Tories the SNP and Labour don't have sufficient votes to defeat the government on anything. There is more risk that some Tory MP's will threaten to vote against the government as they did with the John Major government over Europe. Even so under the 5 year fixed term parliament law that would not bring the government down. So unless there's a vote of no confidence passed then the next election is May 2020. If the SNP had been less aggressive and Labour had been smarter then they could have agreed before the election to work together in a Coalition and prevented the scare stories that the Tories used so effectively. I would suggest that if they'd done that up front Labour would have got more seats in England and could well have been in power now.

There will be no back bench rebellion, the tories were lucky to get re-elected and they know it. Many of their MPs fully expected to be out of work, they will not be keen to rock the boat. Naturally when it comes to a referendum there will be mutterings of discontent with many claiming to be eurosceptics to appease those opposed to eu membership and to hopefully win back the many UKIP supporters they lost. This will not be the only issue they pretend to fight about but it will be the main one.

Got a feeling that the tories will try to get bercow thrown out as speaker and replaced by my MP lynsey hoyle who is currently Deputy speaker that would increase the majority by one and put bercow in his place

Now we have a conservative government for the next 5 years, we can expect cuts in welfare etc, tax cuts that will benefit the richest in this country, and an ever widening gap between the rich and poor. Cameron and co will milk this country for everything they can and we now have a country that is serving the south east of England. Can you seriously blame the Scots for wanting to break away from this situation? Time for a coalition government with all politicians pulling together for the good of everyone. Most people are sick to the teeth of the childish way all politicians behave. To many politicians, and far to many spin doctors, thinking up ways to decieve and unsettle the public. Going to be a tough 5 years for the ordinary public, more food banks and poverty. Will Cameron and co do their best for the poorest in our country? Doubt it

^ not sure it would because Bercow could not be relied upon to vote with the Tories. Would be good to get rid the little sod though!

Dont know i was only 5 lol

but it was during the winter of discontent where the unions went on strike because labour goverment capping pay to cut inflation pressures

How do you work that out? They quadrupled their vote in this election. At the current rate of progress UKIP will be the biggest party in the country before long. I'm not one of their voters by the way, I'm just pointing out the obvious.

But they have 50% fewer MP's than before the election. At that rate of loss, they'll have none next time!

Whilst that is true, Malcolm Rifkind made a good point on the beeb yesterday, that many voters in England probably voted tory because they were afraid of a Labour/SNP coalition giving excessive power over UK, and in particular, English affairs to the scottish nationalists. In other words, the SNP gains didn't just take scottish seats away from labour, but cost them seats in england as well, which helped give the tories their majority.
