I hope Boris makes sensible choices going forward, he has to please a lot of people with a lot of promises made. It's gonna be interesting.

Look, it's cold, but the sun is out, Friday the 13th's are generally good days, I'm gonna try to remain hopeful.

I admire your optimismBig Grin

I have to admit I'm feeling more disaffected than ever now. My empathy towards all the people that complain about what the Tories do next will be zero. I'm no longer in it with anyone, I'm just going to look after myself (which sadly is very Tory-like).

This election answered the major question that has been hanging about this country for 3 years, Brexit, more specifically the need for a 2nd vote/peoples vote. Personally feel pretty optimistic about it, it's going to be an interesting journey that's for sure, especially to see what happens with the other parties moving forward and how they reinvent themselves which following this election they will need to.

I worked for the government for 20 years. I don't feel at all optimistic that this government and civil service has the capability to navigate this country through the hard part of Brexit that is about to come. Don't forget we now have 12 months to put all the trade deals (with every country and group not just Europe), all the processes and agreements PLUS Boris now has to follow through on all his pledges (50000 more nurses - this I've got to see) AND we have to start taking the climate crisis seriously.

Can anybody see these political midgets achieving that?

I'll cheer up at some point I promisebladewave

I've had time to watch Boris's speech now as well and I thought it had a better tone. There may be hope yet.

On t'other hand, I've just noticed it's Friday 13th bladewave

RE: General Election 2019
I’ve just heard a Jeremy Corbyn interview on Radio 5. Cheer up you Labour supporters because none of this was his fault. It was the horrible media who relentlessly attacked him. Funny that the Labour heartlands constituencies who in the past would vote for a red pepper because it was the colour of their party have deserted him.

Lisa Nandy has also said that the dissolution is that the Labour Party is run from London with mainly London shadow ministers who she says the labour heartlands don’t believe reflect their views.

On another note the Lib Dems vote increased by over 4% and yet they have 1 less seat.

I guess I'm just more looking from the point that at least we have a direct path, no more of the 2nd referendum peoples vote shout stalling it. Personally I think he can do it now there's a clear direction moving forward. The other stuff I guess is a case of wait and see, ultimately no one knows what the next 5 years has to offer.

Either way whatever happens with Brexit and other issues whatever Boris and the Conservative's do it's a lose lose, the very parties that ballsed up colossally a big chance to get the Tories out will instead focus on Tory failures instead of their own which is largely why we find ourselves here.

I have no idea what I'm doing here but I'm here!!!

RE: General Election 2019
A few years back i was out campaigning during a by-election and i spoke to a labour activist who told me there was a massive disconnect between the working class voter and metropolitan elite. For too long the snobs in London and have ignored and simply taken for granted they could count on the support of traditional labour voters. Until the party realises that there is life outside of London then they will remain unelectable. If anybody wants proof of the contempt the labour hierarchy holds for the working man then i give you Emily Thornberry and Diane Abbott.

RE: General Election 2019
I'll be interested to see Johnson's full cabinet (not the mini reshuffle to fill gaps). I rather hope that after January he will bring into the cabinet some more centrist Conservatives and dump the ERG cult members who he had to sideline during the campaign because they were toxic (that's you Rees Mogg)
