The Revenant
8/10

People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do.

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"

“Now I am become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds” - Bhagavad Gita

“It's Easier to Fool People Than It Is to Convince Them That They Have Been Fooled.” – Mark Twain.

The Hateful Eight, really enjoyed it felt like a dark comedy and Sam L Jackson stills the show 9.2/10.

The Program.

It's the story of the "miracle" of Lance Armstrong and the efforts of Sunday Times journalist David Walsh to expose him as the biggest fraud in Sporting history.

I've read most of the books including Seven Deadly Sins on which the film is based so the movie only really confirmed that Armstrong is a nasty piece of work with no thought for anyone but himself.

Very good performances from Ben Foster (looking uncannily like Armstrong when on the bike) and Chris O'Dowd as Walsh. Some excellent attention to detail with custom built replicas of the bikes used at the time.

7/10 and well worth a watch if you like sports movies.

Only 3 things in life are certain. Death, Taxes and lesbians will never look how they do in porn movies.

Foxcatcher(2014) exceptional acting from Channing Tatum, who plays brooding, quiet roles really well and Steve Carell, Mark Ruffalo good as usual. A battle of personalities and egos as a multi millionaire takes over the training of an Olympic wrestler in the late 80s. 8/10

Life is beautiful (original title La vita è bella) - 1997, directed by Roberto Benigni, with (principal actors) Roberto Benigni, Nicoletta Braschi, Giorgio Cantarini

8,5/10

funny and witty movie, with some extremely touching moments. Benigni's best work, no doubt about that.

year after year after year, I keep reading that the shows were better "in the past"... maybe they were never that great (except in the pioneering era)?

We Were Soldiers(2002) a Vietnam war film covering the 1965 Battle Of la Drang, a top ,understated performance from Mel Gibson, skilfully mixing battle scenes with the view from the Army bases where the wives are, plus the Viet Cong's view. Quite moving too. 7.5/10

Hitchcock

Decent enough I suppose, as biopics go, but we don't get to see Scarlett Johansson's lung bumpers so that was disappointing.

Uncanny 7.5/10

Not a Hollywood budget film, but if you've seen Ex Machina and liked it then chances are you'll enjoy this one too.

The Revenant - Long and slow but not boring, interspersed with terrific action sequences, the cinematography and acting are good also, a special mention for Will Poulter in a supporting role 8/10

Good(2008) good performances from Viggo Mortensen and Jason Isaacs , a film set in late 30s Germany as one character tries to fit in under the new regime while trying to help his Jewish friend 6.5/10

Alien 3 2003 Special Edition(Restored Workprint Version)

By no means as as good as Alien or Aliens but this version makes much more sense than the 1992 theatrical release and is much closer to director David Fischer's original vision.
