Flesh + Blood(1985)

Western Europe,1501 and according to director Paul Verhoeven people really knew how to party in those days. His English language debut is so uncompromisingly nasty that you have to admire its convictions.A mediaeval actioner dedicated to painful death, violent sex and the reckless destruction of property.Flesh + Blood delivers exactly what its title promises.A precursor to what followed from Verhoeven.

Trancers[aka Future Cop](1985)

A low budget, sci fi adventure with a plot stolen from The Terminator and a hero taken straight from Blade Runner. It might not sound like a good idea considering the film's director,Charles Band lists among his credits the likes of 3-D turkeys Parasite and Metalstorm:The Destruction of Jared Syn,you could be forgiven for expecting the worst, but surprisingly Trancers turns out to be a minor, cult classic.Cheap, cheerful, often quite funny and even inventive in some places despite the plagiarism.Featuring a charismatic turn from comedian Tim Thomerson as the main man and a good work from Helen Hunt as his perky love interest.

The Warriors(1979)

A motley crew of teenage weirdos fight for their right to ransack in this hard nosed action thriller from Walter Hill.It was shot at night on the streets of New York City in Grit-O-Vision to give the viewer a wham, bam, mug you ma'am experience. If its an excuse for action and violence you're looking for,The Warriors is for you as Walter Hill pulls no punches and the result is a seriously tough film, speedy, intense and in places quite scary. If you're looking for depth, you've picked the wrong film.

RE: Last film you watched
I doing catch up on film reviews here's three good uns.

Out Of The Past(1947) starring Robert Mitchum, Kirk Douglas and Jane Greer, directed by Jacques Tourneur, an almost perfect film noir, intelligent and witty script, skilful use of flashbacks, top performances all the way down the cast and no wasted scenes. 9.5/10

Terror At The Opera (1987) I'm not up with giallo as Italian horror is known but I know director Dario Argento is a main figure in it. Based loosely on Phantom Of The Opera, sometimes very gory, but imaginative camerawork and direction. Interesting soundtrack too mix of opera, ambient and heavy metal. A bit underwhelmed by the last 15 minutes or so.Ian Charleson's last theatrical film film 7/10

The Enigma Of Kasper Hauser(1974) Werner Herzog is a director I've heard of but not seen. This tale, based on a true story of an unknown young man who barely speaks who turns up in 19th century Nuremberg. Initially difficult to get into but becomes absorbing helped by the central performance of Bruno S as the man child as we follow his ups and downs 7.5/10

I recommend "Fitzcarraldo" , set at the turn of the 20th century in Peru - where this guy has a bonkers scheme for gaining control of an unexploited area of rubber trees by getting his steamboat literally carried across a mountain from one river to another (because there's a huge waterfall in the way making it impossible to sail between the two). And he's doing all this because he wants to raise the money to put on an opera. If you want a film about never giving up on impossible dreams it's hard to beat.

Out For Justice(1991)

How much pain can one man inflict?
How many times can the same plot be recycled?
How easy is it to throw a ho-slappin pimp headfirst through a car windscreen?
Plenty of questions but who really cares?
Just sit back and put your brain into auto pilot and leave everything to Steven Segal.Seen here, playing a cop bent on a personal mission of revenge, not a great departure for the man who played a cop bent on a personal mission of revenge in Above The Law and a cop bent on a personal mission of revenge in Hard To Kill.Joking aside though, the action is well staged and fight scenes are brutal. The beating he gives the main antagonist Richie(William Forsythe)at the end will make you wince. Also look out for Bruce Lee protégé Dan Inosanto as a tough wearing a hideous shell suit and a ridiculous wig.

The Quatermass Experiment(1953)

Based on the 1953 BBC television serial The Quatermass Experiment by Nigel Kneale.American movie star Brian Donlevy was imported to play Professor Quatermass.Richard Wordsworth(great-great grandson of William Wordsworth)gives a stunning and tragic performance as the astronaut infected while in outer space who slowly transforms into an alien monster back in London.
