Casper Van Dien heads a strong cast as starship trooper Johnny Rico leading the fight against the alien "bugs." Adapted from Robert A.Heinlein's novel, this is a smart satire of a fascist military at war.Featuring spectacular special effects by Phil Tippett and great support from Michael Ironside,Clancy Brown.and Dina Meyer,Paul Verhoeven has said,"This movie is about,'Let's all go to war and let's all die.' "An underrated gem.

8/10

I fear the satire is lost on a lot of viewers : it seems to have influenced a lot of US foreign policy past and future ?

Most definitely.Verhoeven always comments on what the USA looks like to foreigners in his films, starting with RoboCop.

^ I'm always reminded of it when the episode of "Friends" is repeated where Monica asks Chandler (mistakenly thinking he is into "Shark Porn" for various "hilarious" reasons it would take too long to elaborate upon here) : "Shall I get into the bathtub and thrash?".

And now that sounds like that I actually liked the scene. NOOOOOOOO !!!!!!

Eating Raoul(1982)

Paul Bartel and Mary Woronov star as Paul and Mary Bland,a couple who solve the problem of their noisy neighbours who are "swingers." by murdering and then eating them.Robert Beltran is a hoot as Raoul and Paul Bartel, who directed the picture as well as acted in it somehow makes the dark plot charming and funny.

Face/Off(1997) Directed by John Woo, FBI man John Travolta 'swaps' faces with arch terrorist Nicolas Cage so he can infiltrate his gang but then Cage escapes with Travolta's face! Ludicrous scenario with some over the top pyrotechnics but an enjoyable if slightly over long ride, nevertheless. Both stars attack their roles with relish. Also starring Joan Allen & Gina Gershon 6.5/10

Dream House (2011)

Mindbending psycho thriller in which a family learn some disturbing facts about what happened to the previous occupants of their new home. The reveal may or may not leave your jaw dropping to the floor, there are subtle hints as to what is going on but it may still be a shock when you see it. Anyway, it's a decent thriller to wile away an hour and a half with a good performance from Daniel Craig in the lead role. 3/5
