Whats Your Favourite Book

All of the books from the Lord of the Rings are brilliant and if anyone has'nt read them I would strongly recommend them.

Just read Nation a few days ago. Easily his most intelligent, thoughtful and satirical novel to date. One of the darkest and funniest too. He always seems to save the best stuff for what are ostensibly kid's novels doesn't he?

David Peace's 'The Damned United' is the best football book ever written but his first four novels, 1974, 1977, 1980, 1983 are amazing. I honestly believe, as a bit of a literature geek to be honest, that in the future he will be held up alongside Dickens etc and I'm hoping that the tv version of the first four and the film of Damned United do him the justice he deserves.

I haven't read his first four novels yet, I'm working my way through a reading list as long as my arm, but they're on it. I'm hopeful about "The Damned United" film though, Michael Sheen is brilliant at inhabiting the skin of the people he's playing.

Kinda cheating with the book i'm reading Too Fat To Fish - Artie Lange as i have been listening to the audio book of it with Artie and his comedian friends...still brilliant though

Yeah I would have to say the Lord of the Rings series as well. Have you read The Hobbit? That took a while to get going but it was a good read.

Also, I am ashamed to admit it but I thoroughly enjoyed is the Harry Potter series. Thought it was a create series and quite sad that they have finished.

Nothing shameful about the Potter books, J.K. Rowling is a very slick and skillfull writer who draws people in brilliantly. The only real criticism that can be levelled at the books IMHO is that they're overlong. The last three in particular could have been at least a hundred pages each shorter.

On a sad note, he's not the most well known author here in the UK but the brilliant Donald E. Westlake died on New Year's Eve. Anyone who loves crime novels should check out his Dortmunder novels or those written under his pseudonym Richard Stark.

Yes, I have read the Hobbit. Loved it. Can't wait for the film to come out now that New Line and Peter Jackson have knocked their head together. There is a another book in the series called The Silmarillion which I have tried reading a few times, but it is hard going, never made it past about 5 or 6 chapters. It's set way before The Hobbit and it seems to be all about the history of Middle Earth.

I thought that Guillermo Del Toro is going to be directing the Hobbit?

I think he is, Peter Jackson is supposed to be producing it and writing the screen play. The main plus of having Peter Jackson is now that he is on board it will allow Weta Workshop to continue to do the character and set design for the Hobbit.
