Playing from the rough far too often resulted in misjudging distance to the pins, there's always a degree of guesswork once you miss the fairway. The lead was gone in a blink of an eye. He eventually settle down to some extent & Scottie kept it interesting with a few bogies of his own.
It was still in the balance before the spectacular chip in on 17.

I'm sure this will hurt MacIntyre, but he will take some learnings from coming head to head with the world No.1. No disgrace to lose out to this golfing machine, it is more the nature of how he lost, he will feel he's given it away to a degree, with Scheffler allowed to play a more conservative game.
MacIntyre was a 2 time PGA winner last season, unlike Fleetwood waiting to break through.

Hopefully not a case of deja vu all over again. The sub plot to all this is that the USA Ryder Cup team will be announced on Wednesday, with 6 Wildcard picks, the majority of the top 6 are locked in, but with Spaun, & Henley set to be rookies it could help the chances of Thomas & Morikawa. Cantlay would also be hard to overlook with a strong showing already. Young & Burns have outside chances of picks. The big question is does captain Bradley select himself ?

The British Masters also has Ryder Cup implications, although Donald has until early September before the team is finalized. Matt Fitzpatrick leads the tournament & a win would keep him in the picture, Wallace is desperate to play but will need a pick. The Hojgaard brothers are also up for consideration.

This is compelling viewing, it feels like Tommy has the whole of the USA taking shots at him, but he keeps throwing punches back at em. Whatever happens, this is how I wanted him to play, playing smart but not backing off & attacking when necessary.
