I've always thought that Trump (and Brexit for that matter) was just a consequence of what happened in 2007/08. When a global trauma is that deep, it takes a generation for its real effects to be felt and understood.

I suspect that we are now living through another generational trauma.

I wonder what its long term effects will be. And I don't mean two or three months from now, when we all crawl out of hibernation. I mean what kind of world will it be 10 years from now?

I wish I could even hazard a guess...

Been to see my grandad at the hospital (nothing to do with this virus) and the nurse said they have had to remove the hand sanitisers from patients beds because visitors have been stealing them ffs, which makes more work for the already busy nurses and workers.
People have also been using the hospital car parks without paying to go to nearby shops on a morning to fill their cars up. The nurses looked pretty fed up

Here's a story that will make your head spin.

Earlier this year thousands of Chinese immigrants from the city of Wuhan traveled to North Italy for work.

After the new residents got settled some of the local lawmakers noticed the Chinese immigrants weren't being totally accepted by native Italians.

That's when the mayor of Florence decided they should have "Hug a Chinese" Day.

China owns a lot of Italy and most of it's valuable commodities, so there is frequent travel between China and Milan, the business hub of Italy. So when word of COVID-19 was spreading in China and beyond, the virtue signaling mayor of Florence Italy took to twitter to tell everyone to "hug a Chinese". His aim was to show the world how not racist he and his city are. Fast forward 45 days and we can't imagine a more bone-headed move.

Can we now put "virtue signaling" and politically correct pandering on the list of deadly pandemics sweeping the globe? We've always known it dangerous and stupid, but didn't realize how deadly. It's rampant in Europe and has certainly spread widely throughout North America. The one continent where it's almost non-existent and threatens very few is Asia, especially China.
