As I understand it was brought forward a year because of the world cup and agreed by both ECB and Australian Cricket Board. I don't think many England supporters thought we were on a hiding to nothing at the start of the series. Most expected us to win quite comfortably, well at least did not see a potential 5-0 whitewash! I believe the last time back to back Ashes series was held was way back in 1901/02. Interestingly the Aussies won 4-1 in Australia and then beat us in England 2-1.

A truly appalling display, poor shot selection and no mental discipline. We have made a very average australian side look like world beaters.

I can accept that the pace of Johnson will cause problems to lower order batsmen, but to let a spinner take 5 wickets when it's hardly turning is a joke.

There is nothing more I can say about this fiasco! Bresnan should never be anywhere near a test match again he brings zero. This time we cant even blame the bowling they done their job we should of set a target of at least 350 now look at us.

That's two mornings in a row that I've woken up and read the teletext and seen the opposite of what I was expecting, based on how things were going when I went to bed.
If it happens for a third time, England will have saved face, as I'm feeling pessimistic now.

Here's video of Piers Morgan getting a painful over from Brett Lee :

Most bookies have Australia at 1/5 but England are still in the match at odds of around 11/3. Austraila are evens to make it a whitewash and win all 5 tests.

We actually had a lead of 116 runs with 10 wickets in hand & then manage to lose 10 wickets for 114 runs.
Cook,Carberry & Monty all missed balls that were hitting the stumps, but the rest played bad shots & a run out in a Test match is inexcusable.

The match resumes tonight.

I'm still waiting to see what happens with Mitchell Johnson from last night

It was expected that the Australians were going to use intimidating tactics during the series but Johnson has gone way over the top.
This culminated in Johnson flinging the ball in Pietersen's direction after he was stopped in mid run in.

I'm expecting to see a ban, but the referee will probably chicken out and give him a slap on the wrist and a couple of thousand fine.

Try 1974/75 Australia
1975 England .
4-1 to Australia down under Lillee & Thompson at their peak .
1-0 to Australia in England in a 4 match series after the inaugural World Cup .
The Headingley Test was abandoned on the last morning as a draw ,due to the wicket being vandalised overnight .

Shambolic performance by England in the first half hour, dropped catches and poor ground fielding, not to mention Root and Stokes bowling. What the hell is going on?
