How ironic that Lancashire T20 side are called lightning, their 3 best players are Chapple (40) Prince (36) Flintoff (36) can't see them being lightning in the field.
Glen Chapple is one of the finest Yorkshiremen never to have played for them.

RE: Cricket Banter
I'm not sure if Flintoff is fit enough to bowl?

Nicknames: I thought many/most of the counties had jettisoned their nicknames?

Huh

I believe the majority of the counties have retained their nicknames, at least for the 2014 season.

The best name change has to be Worcester, formerly Royals, now Rapids.Shows a great sense of humour as their ground New Road gets flooded annually.

Durham Jets. Hmph.

The alliteration is gone. I adore adequately amusing alliteration. Durham's distressing "Dynamo" dropping is distinctly disturbing. Missing the moniker I might moan and mither until mollified.

RE: Cricket Banter
I actually think that the clubs PR people are missing a trick here with some of the clubs choosing not to have nicknames.I thought the original concept of T20 (which we invented before India & Australia did a better job of it) was to appeal to a new & largely younger audience. This is a re-launch/revamp of the competition & clubs seem to be doing what they want, the teams without nicknames makes them look like killjoys & smacks of arrogance.

Then we have Warwickshire who have gone off at a tangent on their own by going down the route of the city franchise names, something that has been considered but dismissed, for now as they feel that the counties have such a strong history & identity that supporter wouldn't take to it.

If this reformatted competition fails then reducing the 18 counties down to 8 or 10 sides is the next logical step, maybe Warwickshire,or Birmingham as they like to call themselves know something we don't.
