Jimi : All Is By My Side(2013) This charts Jimi Hendrix's life from 1966 when he left New York for London until the time of the Monteray Festival in 1967. A film that focuses mostly on Hendrix's relationships with women( played by Imogen Poots, Hayley Atwell and Ruth Negga) and frustratingly doesn't delve much into inspiration and growth of his music, but rather meanders along with so so scenes and script. However, Andre Benjamin is good as Hendrix portraying him as a man of not too many words, occasionally volatile and without many life plans, leading life spontaneously. Poots puts in a striking, emotional performance, and the flavour of the 60s is caught. The film makers weren't allowed the rights to Hendrix's songs, so not an awful lot is featured, but the re recordings sound fine. Also starring Adrian Lester, Andrew Buckley(good as manager Chas Chandler) and Burn Gorman. 6/10

Tyrannosaur(2011) A realistic slice of life, unshowily directed and superbly scripted by Paddy Considine, as Peter Mullan plays a man prone to destructive rages who meets a charity worker played by Olivia Coleman who may able to help him, but she has problems of her own. Fairly grim, with occasional bits of dark humour, this is a superbly acted piece, as well as Mullan and Coleman, Eddie Marsan is excellent as Coleman's husband, and so is Ned Dennehy as Mullan's friend. No easy answers in this film, but it realistically shows the effects, physical and psychological , of human rage. Also starring Samuel Bottomley, Paul Popplewell & Sally Carman. 7.5/10

The Traitors(1962)
An espionage thriller from director Robert Tronson.Patrick Allen stars as a British secruity agent working with the U.S to try and eek out ruthless traitors to their respective nations. Its all made more effective due to the attitudes of the cold war era that echo today's climate of fear and paranoia.
