so is he world class then yoda? to me if your world class that means you can get in any team in the world ok. so really there should only be 11 players who should get into that team. in a midfield there would be xavi, iniesta, sneider, fabregas as a 4, whos teams got to the world cup final! up front messi playing of villa so where would he fit in then? i just think football fans are just biased towards their own teams and as the point about other fans wanting him, well why would chelsea want him, lampard scores just has many goals, would man utd have swapped scholes for gerrard? i doubt it. its all about opinions yoda. you can say hes scored in this final and that final but GREAT players do it season in season out and win LEAGUE TITLES, like your great players of the past, dalglish, molby, keegan, but they did play in better teams. if you cant take the criticism then dont but all im saying is hes not as good as people make out. to win a cup you need luck, to win a league you need consistency and a bit of luck. anyway my point is he wouldnt get in my world 11 cos of the players i mentioned, sorry yoda pal.

i guess i pissed you off yoda but what pissed me off is that word SPECIAL, and this young kid is gonna be the next gerrard. all the english team werent special in the world cup were they with their leader. special england players are people like stanley matthews first european player of the year and played till he was 50! keegan, twice european player of the year wasnt he! charlton survived munich went on 2 win european cup and WORLD CUP, european player of the year, STILL englands record goalscorer, not bad for an attacking midfielder! bobby moore well what can i say about bobby, "greatest defender i ever faced" says pele, captained england a record 90 times and the ONLY england captain to lift the world cup! billy wright 105 caps for england, first player to get 100 caps for any country and 90 as captain. you see there yoda iv even put one of ur own in as well, cos he must have been some player to win european player of the year twice. to me the word special is used far too often especially for english players, yes we have had some, but would i put him in the same bracket as these players, no!

Thats your opinion then isnt it. Why would Chelsea want him? I dont know....ask any Chelsea fan. They've only tried to sign him 2 or 3 times. Same with Real Madrid who made overtures toward him. He turned them down. Would Man Utd want him?? Go and ask a Man Utd fan....they play Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson, Gibson, Park Ji-Sun....now call me biased if you like but I think there's a slight chance Steven Gerrard is better than that lot.

I dont need to sit here and defend Steven Gerrard to somebody who is talking out their arse just to get under my skin. Steven Gerrard has proved himself to the point where he's regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world by the people he has played with and against his whole career. They are better suited to judge him than me or you. Fernando Torres described him as the best player he ever played with....now he's played with a few gooduns. Is Fernando Torres better qualified to give an opinion than us??? I reckon so. You have your opinion.....but i'd bet my bottom dollar that your opinion is in a small minority if you think Steven Gerrard isnt a world class footballer.

This is going to be my last post about it because it's a subject which is getting more time than it deserves frankly.

Firstly, if you look back at all the posts, you were the first person to mention the word special.


Secondly, every player mentioned above is from another generation. I didnt say Steven Gerrard is the greatest player that EVER lived. Nowhere did i even intimate that. I said he's one of the greatest midfielders of HIS generation. But if i was to be pushed on the subject i'd say he was the second greatest player in Liverpools history behind only Kenny Dalglish.

Your also talking about players not turning up at the world cup this year....well Messi didnt exactly turn up at the world cup and play well....so does that mean he's not world class? Cristiano Ronaldo....poor world cup, is he not world class?

First issue, I slag Torres off because he left the club I support for anther premier league team and under a cloud. It's called banter. That doesnt mean he's a bad player. I'm just enjoying his poor start to his Chelsea career but I know before long he'll start banging goals in again and i'll have nothing to slag him off for. I didnt mention Giggs or Nani because their whole careers they have been WINGERS not central midfielders. Scholes didnt need to be mentioned as you already mentioned him.

And the debate was not about whether he would get in any world XI. This debate started when i said (on the LFC thread and to fellow LFC fans) that a youngster coming through the youth system at LFC was being compared to Stevie Gerrard which prompted u, for whatever reason, to chip in, have a pop at me and say Gerrard is not really that great a player because he has no premier league medal. When i posted videos and evidence to prove otherwise you went on mentioning world XI's, players who didnt perform in the world cup and even comparing him to even footballers who arent alive anymore. Grasping at straws to keep the argument alive.

Basically what your saying now is, that, because he doesnt get in YOUR best XI then it means he isnt a world class player. In an earlier post u put Sneijder in your team but now all of a sudden he's out and Ronaldo is in....does that mean Sneijder isnt world class anymore? Fact is....just because 3 or 4 midfielders can only fit in one persons best midfield in the world doesnt mean there arent 10 or 15 truly world class midfielders around.

Another thing.....i didnt say you were talking out your arse because you didnt put him in your team. I said you were talking out your arse because you said he wasnt a great player. There's a big difference there. Peoples dream teams are a matter of opinion and pretty irrelevant as mostly they are biased opinions and always differ from person to person. What is fact, however, is that Steven Gerrard has proved year in year out (with his goals, assists, goal saving defensive tackles, inspiration and overall general play) that he is a truly great footballer. Anybody who argues with that is doing so just for the sake of it.

As you mentioned what your World XI would be (despite changing your mind from an earlier post ). I'll offer mine (not that it's important).....

CB - Carles Puyol
CB - Nemanja Vidic
LB - Ashley Cole

**** I could have picked at least more 20 players in the team but just because they didnt get in DOES NOT mean i think they are not world class. Cassillas, Buffon, Julio Cesar, Lucio, CHIELLINI, Ferdinand, Terry, LAHM, Evra, Dani Alves, Sneijder, FABREGAS, Xabi Alonso, Kaka, Pirlo, Robben, Ribery, Ozil, Tomas Muller, Higuain, Van Der Vaart, Aguero, Tevez, VILLA, Torres, Drogba.......ALL these players are world class. And i'm sure i've forgotten dozens more.

One final thing...yes i said Gerrard would walk in to any team in the world. I stick by that 100%. These world XI's are imaginary teams. He'd walk into any top REAL football team. lets see now....Man Utd....Carrick/Anderson/Fletcher or Gerrard? Chelsea....Obi Mikel/Ramires/Essien or Gerrard? Arsenal...Song/Denilson or Gerrard? Spurs....Jenas/Huddlestone/Palacios or Gerrard? Man City...Barry/De Jong or Gerrard? Real Madrid....Diarra/Khedira/Alonso or Gerrard? Barcelona....Busquets or Gerrard? Inter Milan...Cambiasso/Motta/Stankovic or Gerrard? AC Milan....Ambrossini/Gatusso/van Bommel or Gerrard? Bayern Munich...Altintop/Pranjic/Ottl or Gerrard? I'm not going any further because its bloody boring now.
