Transformers: The Last Knight

The 6th film in the Transformers Franchise (For me the first film is the classic The Transformers: The Movie animated film from 1986 that I saw aged 9 eek)

I really enjoyed it and think it's the best of the 5 live action transformers films. Special Effects are excellent, the action sequences are very good and the 9yr old kid in me loved the nods it gave to the classic 80's transformers cartoon series & 1986 animated film that made me a massive transformers fan.

There is a scene in the credits that sets up the next Transformers film and had a geekgasm when a certain name was dropped in it

8/10

The Road(2009) A father (Viggo Mortensen - billed as Man) and son (Kodi Smit-McPhee - billed as Boy) travel through a post apocalyptic world to the hopeful safety of the sea. A relentlessly grim tale filmed mostly in browns and green, with a rather low key, occasionally industrial soundtrack. The acting is top notch, good screen chemistry between Mortensen and Smit-McPhee, backed up by Charlize Theron (billed as Woman) in a fine supporting role. The film has got a real emotional pull, a better movie than the similar, later Book Of Eli. Also starring Robert Duvall(Old Man), Michael Kenneth Williams(Thief) and Guy Pearce(Veteran). 8/10

^^^ if you have never read the book of the road you should it's a classic.

Pirates of Caribbean dead man tell no tales

If you like the other films in the franchise then you will like this one. The reception from critics is terrible but I found it ok despite its pretty formuliac plot.

The Cell (2016).

Horror film starring John Cusack & Samuel.L.Jackson (whom appeared together in the weird but underated 1408) in basically a zombie flick in which the mere answering of a mobile phone & it's signals turn people into zombies (like a fair amount of people walking around the streets of London on their phones oblivious to whats going on around them). However the zombies in this film aren't your conventional slow moving, shuffling around type that feed on brains, these zombies are filled with 'rage' & move quickly often running around in packs chasing their next victim.
For every TV Mast/pylon & it's emitted signals attracts swarms of zombies like flies around dog-shit in which each zombie is then used as a transmitter to transmit signals between themselves as a way to communicate with each other.
The first 15-20 minutes of the film were pretty good particularly the airport scene when the outbreak first happens & the plane crash-landing from then on the film turns pretty boring with a muddled plot.

As an actor I'm a big fan of Samuel.L.Jackson but every now & again he appears in bit of a turkey of a film & this is one of them.Rating 4/10.

The Deer Hunter(1978)

An emotionally shattering film from director Michael Cimino and one that defined the decade.Revolving around a group of steelworkers from Pennsylvania who enlist in the army to fight in Vietnam only to see their personal relationships decay quicker than the popularity of the war itself. With utterly absorbing performances from Robert De Niro,Christopher Walken and John Savage.

The Odessa File(1974) Its Hamburg 1963 and an investigative journalist (Jon Voight) researching the apparent suicide of a Jewish man finds links to an assumed dead ex concentration camp commandant and plot to bomb Israel. A solid if not overly exciting thriller which doesn't quite live up to its promise. Voight is good and there's a fine cameo from Maximilian Schell. Also starring Maria Schell,Mary Tamm, Derek Jacobi,Peter Jeffrey, Martin Brandt and Schmuel Rodensky as Simon Wiesenthal. 6/10
