RE: Blu Ray Recommendations
I highly recommend picking up the blu ray Star Trek - The Original Series: Origins, this disc comes with 5 classic Star Trek Ep so as The Cage, Where No Man Has Gone Before, Space Seed, Errand of Mercy, The Trouble With Tribbles so of the best ep's from the original series. I wasn't a massive fan of the original series as i was more of a fan of the modern Star Trek shows but i did enjoy the original series.
The Picture quality has been remastered and picture looks amazing, they've even redone some of the special effects in places.
The sound quality is also stunning as well and original series sounds better then ever and you have a choice of 7.1/DTS-HD or in Mono.
The picture is presented in a 4:3 ratio as thats how it was original filmed so watching it on a widescreen tv it will just look in box format. Well worth picking up at around 7 quid. Smile.

HMV and FOPP are doing some good deals on blu rays and steel books too, picked up Captain Phillips for £9.99 and Red 2 for £9.99 and there both really nice looking steel books, also picked up Moon for £4.99 directed Duncan Jones son of David Bowie and from FOPP picked up the Sherlock Homes steel book for £9. Still waiting for my Elysium steel book to turn up from Zavvi.

RE: Blu Ray Recommendations
I have been offered a Robocop steel book but it is the 2012 release, does anyone know what the quality of that particular release is like, also is it the uncut version? The seller wants £8 for it.

Its worth having as i've seen it going on the net for much higher then that it its uncut but there is another version of it which is available as a steel book and normal blu ray the only difference is that the picture quality is way better on the new version. I still kept the first steel book and bought the new of the steel book, am keeping the first one version as a collectors item. What you could do is buy it and then buy the normal new version which is going cheap and swap the discs round, anyway hope this helps. But there is a massive difference between the 2012 version and 2014 version in terms of picture quality and there both the uncut versions of the film, so forgot to mention they both have the same extras with the new version having so more extras on the disc.

RE: Blu Ray Recommendations
Yeah generally speaking the 4k editions are better then the normal blu ray, there is a difference but you won't see the full 100% percent improvement until you have a 4K tv. For example Ghostbusters has been released 3 times now a normal blu ray, a steel book blu ray with a ultra violet copy of the film and there's a 4K version of the film now which i picked up the other and there is a difference with less grain, richer colours and contrast on the picture and a sharper image. When your watching a 4K film on a normal blu ray it downscales slightly but when you get a 4K blu ray player and tv you'll see the full benefit of a 4K film. Consoles like the PS3/PS4 and now the Xbox One use 4K software and hardware its just you'll need a 4K tv.
It is a piss take when companies release the films again which makes you wonder why they didn't do a good job of the transfer in the first place, films like Terminator 1 and 2 were released twice as they did a shit blu ray transfer and then they did a better job second time around same with Predator 1 the first version was crap and then they released it again Sad.

RE: Blu Ray Recommendations
The film companies are only interested in making as much money as possible from movie fans. I have learnt my lesson from the days of dvd ( a vanilla disc followed by the obligatory 2 disc special edition ) i got caught out many times and i won,t repeat the same mistakes with blu ray. I will be getting a 4k TV soon and i will start picking up 4k films when i can get them at a good price. I bought Total Recall in 4k today for £6, excellent price.
