From today I will be resuming my daily reviews of the World Championship at the Crucible as per last year.
I was unable to complete reviews of days one and two as I had other pressing demands on my time.

Day Three:
After carving out a 6-3 lead over David Gilbert on day one the five time champion Ronnie O'Sullivan eventually overcame a plucky opponent 10-7 to progress to round two.
Gilbert took the opener of session two with runs of 60 and 62 before the next four frames were shared, the highlight of which was a 124 from the 'Rocket'.
8-6 became 9-6 before Gilbert knocked in a brave 71 break.
However O'Sullivan sealed victory with a 72 break.
On table one 'Wizard of Wishaw' John Higgins stormed into a 7-2 lead over Ryan Day. Higgins signalled his intentions early on with early runs of 105 and 79. Day responded to level at 2-2 before the Scot powered to five frames in a row including breaks of 100, 77 and a further 105 to leave the Welshman reeling overnight.

In the afternoon two time champion Mark Williams made little fuss in seeing off 2006 winner Graeme Dott 10-4.
A 7-2 lead established on Sunday never looked under any threat and the Welshman made a century break en route to winning 3 frames from five to seal his berth in round two.
Meanwhile World number one Mark Selby leads Robert Milkins 7-2 overnight after a good quality opening session of their match. There were breaks of 50 and above in every frame bar one. The Leicester man was more consistent though and breaks of 54, 51, 50, 72, 68 and 132 have left Milkins with a mountain to climb upon the resumption tomorrow.

In the evening qualifier Sam Baird held his nerve superbly to claim a notable first round win over seeded player Michael White. Baird saw his narrow advantage from the first session overturned as White won the first two frames of the evening. Baird responded with great maturity however and won 5 of the last six frames to win the match. Breaks of 54, 62 and 103 combined with some tough matchplay snooker saw him home.
A tense and dour struggle was played out between Ricky Walden and Robbie Williams. Trailing 5-4 after the first session Walden fought hard to claim a 10-8 victory.
The first four frames were dour affairs but shared to leave Williams still in front at 7-6.
Walden then kicked on and started to play much better to reel off 3 frames to lead 9-7.
Williams knocked in a terrific century to peg it back to 9-8 but missed his chance in frame 18 to let Walden in for a match winning break and take his place in round two.

I see John Virgo is being paired on commentary with the equally tedious Stephen Hendry. They're a great advert for Eurosport, let's face it.

Glad Walden got through, he reminds me of Richard Beckinsale in a way - in another life he could be the put-upon romantic male lead in some sitcom.

The White-Baird match to me highlighted the weirdness of the fluid top 16 system now. I've not seen enough of White to be convinced of him as a top 16 player, and it seems very odd that Graeme Dott or Ryan "haunted face" Day had to qualify.

Milkins is dull, fat, and saddled with that "Milkman" nickname. Because compared to Hurricane, Whirlwind, Typhoon etc, Milkman really does not cut it.

They often are. I'm pretty sure Virgo's second-most repeated phrase over recent years is "I agree with you Stephen."

Got interesting as Milken won 4 frames in a row to get it to 7-6 before Selby pulled away to victory
