i used to watch it purely for wogan's acerbic musings, norton is a reasonable replacement. it is shit, but in a warm comforting way.

Past performance is no indicator though. Ireland haven't made the final for the last 4 years.

Well done to Portugal Cool

RE: Eurovision 2017
^^ Exactly right - If there's one defining thing about Eurovision, aside from the madness, is that statistically speaking in recent times past performance counts for absolute zip.

Ireland still hold the record for most wins (7) and are the only country to win it three years on the trot (1992, 1993 and 1994) but their most recent win was 1996. Eimear Quinn's "The Voice" in that year was so good, a real powerful song.

That was a good time when the contest celebrated good music, good songs that were deserved winners. Nowadays the music is ridiculed somewhat and the focus has shifted to nonsense. Alternative (some may say joke) acts have got more attention recently (dancing gorillas, milkmaids, bearded ladies). It's a sign of how much the focus has shifted in the last twenty years. It's good to see that the UK's funding - we're one of the big five countries that put the most money in to making this nonsensical shite possible - has been well spent. Wink Big Grin

For me Portugal's winning song seemed to send a nod back to a more traditional era. It's good to have a decent song and a new winning nation holding the trophy among the usual weird chaos. Smile

This 'Eurovision according to Australia' graphic made me chuckle :

I thought the right song won, although I've got to be honest and admit I also liked that yodelling song from Romania.
