Thank goodness for that result. Well done to Kerber in joining the greats of Wimbledon winners.

I'm talking about slam finals. The stage she's been on God knows how many times before and even in losing, they've gone the distance to three sets. I'm not interested in matches before finals. That's the point I'm making.

State that properly then in future.

But I gave my reasoning in the second paragraph, Kerber does everything better than all the other players Serena has played this tournament, she isn't bothered about Serena's power, she can move Serena around, she can defend well, Serena was made to work and got exposed as not being 100% movement and fitness wise, her movement throughout the tournament hasn't been great but she faced players who can't produce that defence against her, first player she comes up against with good defense and she crumbles.

I DID state that properly. In post 48, I made it clear I was talking about a final stage. I also said "in under an hour" in my second paragraph in that post:-

How about you read that properly in the future?

Look, you're pleased that Kerber won, so am I. I'd already said I wanted Kerber to win her first Wimbledon. I just wanted a more competitive match, and no matter what anyone says, I won't believe that performance in a final was competitive. It was way too tame. I respect your opinion of the match, and I do agree to a degree that Kerber played a brilliant match. But I also won't believe that Serena didn't help her with a vastly below par performance. I also get the feeling that Billie Jean King and Martina Navratilova alluded to that in their interview on BBC with Sue Barker after the match.

RE: Wimbledon 2018
You just stated when have we seen her lose in an hour, you didn't specifically say in finals. Of course we haven't seen that but she's performed poorly in finals before or been outplayed.

Kerber did everything right, the key to today's match was always going to be Serena's fitness and movement, if anybody was going to expose that it would be Kerber, Serena simply didn't hold up, her timing was off, at times I thought she was trying far too hard.

This is what you're going to see with Serena, she'll slowly get there but as anybody can clearly see she still has a bit to go, it all depends what type of player she plays.

What is wrong with you? Look at post 48 again. I'll put the link up for you again:-

The last line of that second paragraph says "way, way too tame a way to lose a final". If that's not specifically mentioning a final, I don't know what is. Rolleyes annoyed

I asked you before to give me examples of recent slam finals where she has not performed. You didn't reply. I'll tell you two recent slam finals where she lost. French Open 2016. She lost 7-5, 6-4 to Garbine Muguruza in a competitive match lasting over 2 hours. Australian Open 2016. She lost 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to Angelique Kerber in a competitive match lasting two and a half hours that went to three sets. On neither of these occasions would I say she was outplayed or didn't perform.

Before that, the last slam final she lost was the 2011 US Open to Samantha Stosur. She lost that due to controversy over an altercation with the umpire. She may have been outplayed for some of that match but seven years ago is hardly recent. Since 2011 and excluding the 2016 pair I mentioned above, Serena has played 10 other grand slam finals and won every single one.

Please take more time to read my posts before replying. I have already stated I respect your opinion on today's match. I simply do not agree.

Is that all?

RE: Wimbledon 2018
You specifically mentioned final in that sentence, you didn't specifically mention it when talking about her losing in under an hour, that's why I thought you meant anytime during her career not specifically finals.

Serena was at her best back then and at the top of the game, what are you expecting from Serena right now? To be super human? To win every tournament she enters? This is a much different Serena who has obvious problems with fitness and movement, if she comes up against a player who can expose that like Kerber then she'll be in trouble, that's clear as day, if you can't see that then you don't know much about Tennis.

Final or not as I said before, from now on she's going to get exposed by certain players until she shows that she's back to her best.

Kerber played the perfect match and answered the questions regarding whether Serena can hold up physically against her, the answer was no, simple as that.

RE: Wimbledon 2018
I stated the "hour" in the same paragraph. That same paragraph where I was talking about finals. That same paragraph that's in a post, in a thread, that's talking about a grand slam. And today's match was a final. So we're talking about finals. It does say that in the post.

You're seemingly unable to comprehend but I have repeatedly said I don't agree fully with your assessment, but I do respect your opinions. We're of course allowed to disagree but there should still be respect. You began this by replying to my post.

I don't think this conversation can serve any further purpose.

Jeez, suddenly I feel like Kevin Anderson after yesterday's marathon. I hope he's got more left than I have for tomorrow. Wink

"She managed to fight harder in all her previous matches so shouldn't have been a problem. Seriously - something's not right here. Obviously I can't prove anything untoward but Williams losing in under an hour"

This is what I answered too and that you're failing to understand.

She managed to fight harder in other matches - Playing Kerber is an entirely different prospect than facing someone like Giorgi or Goerges, they have nowhere near the same skill set as Kerber.

There's clear reasons why Serena lost today yet you clearly don't understand.

Look at people's opinions on the Tennis forum for example then you'll understand what I'm getting at.

Djokovic showing how to make a career comeback there Tongue

Well done to Anderson, though, hopefully a real career step up.
