They already have, that's the whole point.

It's the fact that Setanta only has 23 matches now that's got them into the present mess, as not many people are subscribing now knowing that it's only for 23 matches.

Setanta have 1 year left of the deal which sees them have 46 matches. In the bidding for the 3 yrs starting from 2010/11 season. Bidding for that took place in Feb. Setanta went into negotiotians and underbid and ended up losing 1 of the 2 packages they currently have rights to.

With the current deal having a year left and Setanta defaulting on the payment to the premier league it means the PL will sell the rights to auction. With Sky expecting to take 1 package, and the other package up for grabs as EC laws say they cant have all 6

None of this has happened yet. Setanta have not as yet defaulted on payments to the PL.

Well considering they've defaulted on the SPL payment i can't see how on earth they're gna be able to pay the PL and that they've halted subscriptions suggest they're certain not to make the payment. Their 2 packages for next season will go for auction

A new investor has entered talks with Setanta in a last-ditch effort to save the company from going into administration.

According to BBC News, Setanta's board is meeting today and a deal "could be finalised in the next 72 hours".

RE: Setanta appears doomed as subscription services withdrawn
Len Blavatnik, the American tycoon with links to some of Russia's best known oligarchs, has offered Setanta a £20m lifeline, I have learned.

Blavatnik, whose media interests include Top-up TV - the pay TV channels on Freeview - and an Israeli sports channel, has written to Setanta's owners offering to put in £20m in return for a controlling 51% stake.

His hope is that - at the very least - his intervention will buy Setanta some time, and will persuade creditors of the sports television business to hold off pulling the rug.

Blavatnik - who worlks with the former boss of BSkyB, David Chance - hopes that creditors and the owners of Setanta would want to examine what he has in mind as an alternative to closing the business.

Of Russian descent (he and his family left Russia in the 1970s), Blavatnik has not emerged unscathed from the credit crunch.

LyondellBasell, a huge petrochemicals maker that he backed, has collapsed, foisting eye-watering losses on its creditors, which include Royal Bank of Scotland.

RE: Setanta appears doomed as subscription services withdrawn
US tycoon Len Blavatnik has tabled a proposed rescue deal for pay-television firm Setanta, it has been confirmed.

The £20 million offer for 51% of Setanta is aimed at securing the future of the cash-strapped Irish broadcaster by helping it avoid administration. The Irish-based broadcaster has around 1.2 million subscribers, but that is short of the reported 1.9 million it needs to break even.

Setanta's potential white knight founded Access Industries, a privately owned industrial group, in 1986. It also has interests in Top-up TV, which is Freeview's pay TV service, Israeli television's Sport 5 and online sports provider Perform Group. Access currently has a holding of less than 5% in Setanta. A statement from the firm said: "Access Industries can confirm that this morning it submitted a proposal to the board of Setanta to acquire a majority interest in Setanta, refinancing the company.

"The Access proposal is subject to a number of pre-conditions being met.

"Access believes that this proposal would secure the future of the broadcaster for customers, football and employees."

The spokesman said he was unable to disclose the terms of the proposal. Setanta has TV rights including the FA Cup, World Cup qualifiers, Premier League, Scottish Premier League, and the Blue Square Conference - but is struggling to pay for them as customer numbers have dwindled in the recession.

I enjoy Setanta, hopefully it won't go under.
