Yes when he first came in he got us organised after the nightmare of the Staunton era. He got us into the play offs after getting out of a weak group. When we played in the play off against France, we played our best football during Tappattoni's time in the second leg against France.
When the Euro 2012 qualifiers came around, he didn't build on the good football we played against France and went back to neanderthal football. He got us out of another weak group and scraped into the play offs. Although during some matches in the qualifiers, we got outplayed. Typically because we got numbered in midfield and the away match against Russia is a good example of this, were the Russian's could of beaten us at least 6-0 that day.
So we reached the play offs and got the best draw all the top seeds wanted. I don't think we were particularly impressive against Estonia, as I thought the 4-0 scoreline that night flattered us. Decisions went our way in that game, which swung the play off in our favour.
In the Euros, yes we had a tough group, but in all 3 games, we were shit. Probably a bit much to ask him to get out of that tough group, but we didn't perform well at all in any of the 3 games.
Now for the reasons I want Trappatoni to go:
1. He continues to use 4 4 2. I have said this time and time again, but 4 4 2 is a dying and ancient formation and by using this formation we are falling behind other nations, who are playing with 3 centre midfielders. Also as I have said already, the football is just awful to watch, people are just horrified when they watch it.
2. He leaves out players that should be in the team or squad. For instance against Kazahstan recently he played Cox as our right winger, even though he has McClean and Coleman, who are better than Cox in that position. Plus the fact Shane Long is not the main striker in our team is frankly stupid.
3. I believe he has communication problems with the players. Richie Sadlier wrote an article about it in the Irish Independent.

Trappatoni is not the only problem affecting the progress of Irish football, but the FAI are as well. We need new ideas to produce quality young players, who are technically gifted with the ball. The Irish league is a shambles as well, I heard John Delaney earns more in his salary than the winners of the Airtricity League. We have too many clubs in the league, playing Stoke City style football and off the field at least 3 clubs seem to go under financially. The Irish League needs a revamp and I think we should try and create a league like they have in Sweden for example. Its things like this that need to be improved, so that Ireland can progress in football.
