On top of all that our University sector is in financial crisis and an influx of foreign students, paying more than domestic students, would help the situation.

It's an open goal economically but with the mood of the zeitgeist around immigration right now it comes with risks

It's the big reduction in foreign students in recent years that has put the University sector into financial crisis in the first place.
So I think that ship has sailed, as far as the UK is concerned.
