Yes it was, have they done it? No.

The criticism of us is justified as there has been no significant signings but people should be wondering how we still manage to get the 4th place and how can spurs blow 8 and 10 point leads to miss out, if we finish below spurs that would be a travesty by everyone but the fact that Everton finished above Liverpool that is nothing and its fine.

We don't "always miss out" we've been out of the Champions League for 4 seasons, this is the 5th. We've had 3 managers in 3 years all changing things and doing it their own way, Arsene Wenger's been the Arsenal manager for 17 years. He should have a solid squad with a basic core that only needs tweaking every 3 or 4 seasons like Fergie did at United. He's got champions league money every season to spend, the club's located in London. Everything is set up for Arsenal to be a super power of european football, you should have one of the best teams in the world. That's why there's such a fuss about Arsenal.

The fees we paid for Carroll, Downing and Henderson were a disgrace. Have a look at the players and not their price tag, that's why we didn't kick on into the top spots. Our ownership have a clear strategy of how they want things done now, the days of throwing crazy money away on average players are long gone. They're trying to build our squad so we're at the top in 5 years time and still there in 10. Success won't come straight off the bat they said, i didn't expect it to. The job of taking us back to the top is enormous, monumental from where we've fallen. We're a work in progress, building piece by piece.

We're looking half decent again though and it's only the start of Rodgers second season in charge. Liking what I'm seeing...

RE: Football Banter
I believe this season could be profitable for Liverpool. The good work started upon the arrival of Brendan Rodgers last season and as GNP says, it has been a steady improvement thus far. The character that both Brendan Rodgers and John W Henry showed to stand up against the Suarez saga earlier in the summer proved to me that Liverpool mean business this time - and are not about to let petty disputes stand in the way of their drive for success. I like that. It can only be more interesting and exciting for the Premier League season as a whole to have more and more teams involved in the chase for glories.

I want to see as many teams as possible challenging the top four. Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal and maybe even some other teams outside of that group. It can only be better for the game. As a supporter of a team which has spectacularly fallen from grace in the last two seasons, I have the luxury of being able to enjoy this Premier League season as a neutral. I like what I've seen so far in both the Premier League and Arsenal's performance in the Champions League last night. Long may the rivalries and the excitement that the game gives us continue. Smile

How do the media like liverpool?...

As for Willian i must be the only Spurs fan that doesn't want him the guy is a mercenary he was quite happy to go to Liverpool then changed his mind to go to Spurs and now shock horror Chelsea. Liverpool and Spurs are better off without someone like that at there club, i would rather have someone that actually wants to play for the badge and club and actually want to help improve the club to help win things.

RE: Football Banter
Willian probably would have been better off at Liverpool and would have walked straight into that side and would have really made Liverpool even more dangerous force. With the amount of midfielders Chelsea already have then good luck to him. Just shows you that now with lots of money that its everything thats wrong with football these days Sad.

The question though, is if Willian goes to Chelsea, is somebody leaving? They alread have Hazard, Oscar and Mata to play behind the Striker. Maybe one will be sold to finance the Rooney deal OR even a swap for Rooney? Seems like they have too many for them positions to me. Unless they know one will be leaving soon...

I think a deal has already been agree between chelsea and united for rooney and he will move after the game.

Willian will play behind the striker and I think Torres could bevon his way out.

Latest speculation is that Mata might be on his way out if a deal is done for Rooney.

RE: Football Banter
Makes no sense going for Willian, maybe if we hadn't already bought Shurrle, but it's just waste of money that could be better spent on a striker that we actually need. Would certainly be the end of VicMo, which would be a shame (I can't believe people are still talking about Mata leaving)

Although if were buying him just to piss Tottenham off then I'm all for that Wink
