RE: UFC
Yeah it's that time again boys, UFC 129: St-Pierre vs. Shields, live on ESPN 2am, prelims live at 1am.

It's gonna have to ba a quick one chaps as I've not got time.

Mark Bocek v Ben Henderson - Henderson Submission
Vladimir Matyushenko v Jason Brilz - Matyushenko Decision
Randy Couture v Lyoto Machida
A funny fight this with it being Randy's last & Machida probably looking to get back into the title picture, but why he's fighting Randy is a little strange unless it wasn't known that Randy was entering retirement when the fight was announced. Machida has lost his last two to Rampage & before that his light heavyweight title to Rua so he needs a win & may be under a little bit of pressure. Randy will also be under some pressure to go out with a bang in front of 55,000 fans but I can see Couture being the more relaxed of the teo considering he has nothing on the line, I also see the fight going the distance with neiter fighter willing to go all out & make a mistake. - Couture Decision
José Aldo v Mark Hominick 1 loss with 11 straight. - Aldo KO
Georges St-Pierre v Jake Shields
The one thing I will say abiut this fight is after watching Primetime last night GSP said he was nervous & it was filmed in the last 10 days or so & Shields looks confident & relaxed which maked it an intriguing spectacle.
I think GSP will be all too aware of the ground game of Shields so he'll go old school & get back to his Kyokushin karate style to keep Shields at bay as the saying goes if he can't get near you he can't take you down & he'll look to tear into the legs Of Shields & maybe in the 4th or 5th round then go to the ground as he's said before about beating people at their own game, Jake Shields has won 15 straight fights so no doubt he's the biggest test of GSP's career but thwy said the same about Josh Koscheck. In his 26 wins Shields has 10 subs & 13 decision wins so he's gonna have to go the distance if he's gonna win & I just don't see him overcoming the athleticism of GSP coupled together with the leg strikes. - GSP Decision

Nate Diaz v Rory MacDonald - Diaz Submission
Sean Pierson v Jake Ellenberger - Ellenburger Decision

RE: UFC
Predictions for later lads.

* Lightweight: Mark Bocek vs. Ben Henderson - Bocek Decision

* Light Heavyweight: Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Jason Brilz - Brilz KO

* Light Heavyweight: Randy Couture vs. Lyoto Machida - Changed my mind from the other day.Randy's awesome and a legend.I hope he beats Machida up and wins but can't see Lyoto losing. He's got unfinished business in the UFC and will need a win tonight. Machida KO Punches

* Featherweight Championship: José Aldo © vs. Mark Hominick - Two fighters here one very good, one outstanding.Aldo being the outstanding, electric one. Aldo Submission

* Welterweight Championship: Georges St-Pierre © vs.Jake Shields - Can't wait for this.GSP for me will wipe the floor with Jake Shields. He's the fittest, the sharpest, most versatile, most accurate and most driven fighter in the UFC.Fighting a good opponent granted, who's unbeaten in 6 years.A terrific fighter but the run ends tonight. GSP KO Punches Round 3

Enjoy the show lads.

RE: UFC
I don't see Lyoto Machida being cut even if he loses this fight, he lost his title then lost a split decision to Rampage a fight that even Rampage was surprised have won i.e Machida was given the all too frequent judges treatment, his UFC record is 8-2 & his overall is 16-2, 3 consecutive losses the first, second & third of your career isn't that bad in mma.

199lives you say how big is Jon Jones, look at the size of Cain Velasquez, he's gonna take some moving!!!

That Chuck vid's quality.BounceBounceBounce

astonv1 I probably won't be watching it till monday anyway, I never watch it live I always watch it on Sunday morning (Not 3am) but there's football on all day from 12 noon. LFC Big Grin

RE: UFC
it wasnt a bad fight m8, shields was a little slow to start and couldnt let it flow. it was more of a chess match than i hoped it would be. but gps getting an eye injury in round 2 ment he was always gonna struggle and he did. his timing was off because he had no vision in 1 eye, which ment he couldnt judge the space between him and shields. it was he 1 thing that shields could have taken advantage of he but didnt. i wouldnt say it was a poor fight. it just didnt finish with a flurry as both men had good reason to be hesitant.

the rest of the card was great, especialy the aldo fight. i think he just couldnt believe hominick came out for the fifth round so when hominick put aldo on his back aldo just tried tying him up. a 50/45 score card says it was 1 sided but it wasnt. hominick did end up on the floor more than 1s and was lucky not to have had the fight stopped on 3 occasions. 1s with a propper knock down that the reff seemed to have missed. his eyes did roll over but he gathered himself and regrouped well for 4 and 5. overall a great fight for both men.

randy v shogun hmmm. randy was wooden and seemed to have no rhythm. shoguns kick was less about his skill than randy standing still... its a good choice that he made when he announced his retirement.

the rest of the fight card was outstanding. the preliminary card was great and well worth a look if you missed them.

Yesterday was the first time in about 8 months that I've had a beer so my memory is a little off when it comes to remembering this card especially the fighters I've not seen before but I'll do my best.

Mark Bocek v Ben Henderson Errr I remember this being a good fight but thats about it, 13-2 former WEC lightweight champ Ben Henderson looks like he's gonna be a force in the UFC division.
Vladimir Matyushenko v Jason Brilz
Jason Brilz got Matyushenko blitzed, 20 seconds whats left to say.. Next!!!
Randy Couture v Lyoto Machida
Ummm, bit of a mistake on my part here, in previewing this fight I got light heavyweight Lyoto Machida confused with middleweight Demian Maia who got made to look silly in 'that' fight with middleweight champ Anderson SilvaShy
Anyway is was a great fight from Machida's point of view as in his last 2 fights he lost his belt & then was done out of a split desision to Rampage so this win & the making of it will no doubt get him back in with a title shot come his next 2 fights???
The fight itself wasn't the way Randy would've wanted to go out but like HEX!T said, "Randy was wooden and seemed to have no rhythm". The man is no doubt one of if not the biggest legend in the Zuffa era of the UFC & even though all fans of mma would've liked to see him go out in a better way I think they'll be glad that at the age of almost 48 he's now called it a day after coming back & winning his fifth title against the odds in his fight with Tim Silvia. There's no doubt he'll now go on to train some of the next generation of champions at his Xtreme Couture gym.
HEX!T you must've been drinking the same as me as Randy fought Machida not ShogunRolleyes
José Aldo v Mark Hominick
This was the first time I have seen José Aldo & eventhough I don't think I saw the best of him you could still tell why eveyone goes crazy for the guy, those leg kicks are quite something. Hominick looked like he maybe on to something in the first 2 rounds with his timed punches but eventhough Aldo was struggling he was still scoring big points when he was taking down Hominick which shows the brain of a smart fighter & in the championship rounds started to get through a little better, although I did think the ref was gonna step in & the doctor would stop the fight when Hominick started to grow a second head while on his back with Aldo in his guard but hats of to Hominick for fighting on & the doctor for allowing it to go the distance. If both these fighters could manage to move up to lightweight that would just about make it by far the best division in the UFC.
Georges St-Pierre v Jake Shields
Personally I wasn't very impressed with this fight, yes GSP got an eye injury but Shields didn't take advantage of it by trying to go for the takedown, that said GSP still managed to fight smart given his restricted vision which shows just how far he is ahead of the rest.
Eventhough he had an injury this is now 3 fights in a row where I've been dissapointed with the performance of GSP but then again maybe I'm just expecting too much & given the nature of the opponents, Koscheck KO power & wrestling, Dan Hardy KO power & Jake Shields submission specialist but I would like to see him start to put in the type of performance he did in the rematch with Matt Serra.

Nate Diaz v Rory MacDonald
Nate's move upto welterweight isn't going to plan in his first few fights but with the tallent he's got & the team he trains with I'm pretty sure it won't be long before he starts to get his rhythm going.
Rory Macdonald is looking like a very good prospect & his move to the Tri Star gym was all too obvious in his style with his striking & movment.
Sean Pierson v Jake Ellenberger
Pierson was never in this fight & at a few days notice & 2:42sec of work thats what you call getting paid!!!

All in all it was a pretty fair show although I did expect the crowd to be a little louder.

Fighters were awarded $129,000 bonuses. This works out at $32,250 each & the pay is usually $75,000 per fighter so I'm guessing with the bigger ticket sales (Attendance 55,724
total gate $12,075,000) they decided to pay them bigger bonuses, but this would mean the bonus pay is bigger than some fighters pay??? Must be a typo.
Fight of the Night: José Aldo v Mark Hominick
Knockout of the Night: Lyoto Machida
Submission of the Night: Pablo Garza

This is the full 54min prelim show, I'm not posting the vid as it's the same one which fucked everything up for me when I posted TUF & Primetime the other day. If it works it works but if it don't then, well you'll have to go & cry to your daddy.
