RE: UFC
September 19th is on Wednesday so it'll probably be a Fight Night or Fuel TV event. UFC 152 is set to take place on Saturday 22nd in Toronto, Canada.

GSP Hopeful for November Return in Montreal

Rehabilitation from any major surgery is a slow, drawn out process. It’s not any different, even if you are UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.

An athlete in top condition, like GSP, can accelerate the healing process, but it still doesn’t go away completely. And that’s something St-Pierre and his fans have had to come to accept.

As much as everyone wants to see St-Pierre back in the Octagon, defending his belt, the champ continues to warn that his return from ACL surgery is a lengthy process. In fact, even though he’s feeling great, now is one of the most critical times for him to restrain his desire to push harder and attempt to come back too soon.

“My rehab is going really well. My doctor says it is the fastest rehab they have seen for an ACL surgery,” said St-Pierre at Wednesday’s press conference in Calgary. “Even though I’m feeling almost 100 percent right now, I’m halfway through my rehab and I can’t push too much because my graph is still not fused properly.”

The UFC announced a trio of dates and location for Canadian events in 2012, and it’s surely no coincidence that St-Pierre’s hometown of Montreal is on the docket for UFC 154 on Nov. 17, the same timeframe that St-Pierre has been targeting for his return.

St-Pierre would like nothing better than to be ready for a showdown with interim champion Carlos Condit at the Bell Centre, but maybe as much to keep his own hopes in check as those of his fans, he won’t say that he plans to be ready by then.

“Hopefully I’ll have a chance to fight in front of my Canadian fans in November, but (UFC president Dana White) is the boss and he is the one that decides everything. But hopefully, I cross my fingers, and I hope that will happen,” said GSP.

“I wish and I pray that I have a chance to perform in 2012, no matter where it will be. I want to come back and fight in 2012.”

Even White, who will “take him as soon as we can get him,” was cautiously optimistic about GSP’s return happening later this year in Canada.

“It depends on when he is healed and when the fight could happen,” White said, tiptoeing around the issue. “Obviously Georges St-Pierre fighting anywhere around the world is big. Georges St-Pierre, I’ve said it many times, he’s pound for pound the biggest pay-per-view star in the sport. We’ll see what his timetable is on his return and we’ll go from there.”

But GPS or no GSP, Canadian fans will be rewarded for their patience with three pay-per-view events in 2012 and three more events in 2013.

The first of the Canadian cards will be UFC 149 in Calgary on July 21st, where featherweight champion Jose Aldo will defend his title against an as yet unknown opponant.

UFC on FX 4 Gets Ross Pearson vs. Cub Swanson

Ross Pearson and Cub Swanson are set to square off in a featherweight showdown at UFC on FX 4 on June 22 in Atlantic City, N.J. UFC officials notified MMAWeekly.com of the bout Thursday morning.

Pearson (13-5) enters the fight coming off of a unanimous decision victory over Junior Assuncao at UFC 141 on Dec. 30 of last year. That bout was the British fighter’s debut at featherweight.

Pearson made the move down to 145 pounds despite a respectable 4-2 run at lightweight following his emergence from the ninth season of The Ultimate Fighter.

Swanson (16-5) most recently defeated George Roop at UFC on Fox 2 in January. He is in his fifth year under the Zuffa regime, having fought several times for WEC when Zuffa purchased the promotion and moved it to Las Vegas. He is now 1-1 in the UFC, trying to build towards a title shot in a division thin on legitimate contenders to Jose Aldo.

A lightweight battle between Gray Maynard and Clay Guida headlines the UFC on FX 4 fight card.

RE: UFC
The latest episode of TUF Live was a good one. I really like how they show the struggles, hardship & give us some idea how much heart & mental toughness is required just to get ready for a fight.

I am surprised the ratings aren't far higher, but it'll catch on soon enough, I'm sure.

I just finished a five mile run in the sunshine & my ears are still ringing from having my ipod set to the highest volume. Oops!
Off for a shower, then gonna watch TUF Brazil... let's hope it has subtitles :S

RE: UFC
Former UFC Champ Brock Lesnar Back to WWE?

It appears that it hasn’t taken former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar to find a new job.

Rumors constantly swirled around Lesnar about a return to his professional wrestling gig with WWE even while he was actively competing in the UFC. The rumors increased following his retirement after losing to Alistair Overeem at the promotion’s 2011 year-end event, UFC 141.

Those rumors have risen to a fever pitch with Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer now reporting, although he doesn’t have confirmation, that Lesnar is believed to have signed a one-year deal with WWE and “will work a more than Undertaker and less than Goldberg type of schedule” upon his return.

WWE is slated to put on its annual blockbuster event on Sunday with WrestleMania XXVIII in Florida. The fire surrounding talk of Lesnar signing a new deal with the WWE got a little more fuel with Meltzer adding that Lesnar is “in Miami and arrived with security and a large group of people shielding him from everyone.”

Lesnar went on a 5-1 run, capturing the UFC heavyweight title then defending it twice before losing the belt to Cain Velasquez. Following the loss to Velasquez with a brutal beating at the hands, and knees, of Overeem.

Despite two career-threatening bouts of diverticulitis, a severe intestinal disorder, Lesnar finished his MMA career with a 5-3 record overall. He fought all but one of those bouts in the Octagon, having kicked off his career with a win over Min Soo Kim at K-1’s Dynamite!! USA event in 2008.

Following his first fight, Lesnar immediately stepped in against the top tier names in the UFC heavyweight division, facing the likes of Frank Mir, Randy Couture, Shane Carwin, and Heath Herring before the back-to-back defeats that sent him into retirement.

“I’ve had a really difficult couple of years with my disease. I’m going to officially say tonight was the last time you’ll see me in the Octagon,” Lesnar said following the loss to Overeem.

“I want to thank the Fertittas, Dana White; Brock Lesnar is officially retired. I promised my wife and my kids if I won this fight that I would get a title shot and then that would be my last one, but if I lost tonight (I would retire), everybody you’ve been great.”

Lesnar made his way into the national spotlight as the WWE champion well before his mixed martial arts career in the UFC, so it would only be fitting that he returned to the roots of his popularity.
