RE: Liverpool FC
It is no secret that Liverpool were not as potent in front of goal as they would have liked in 2011-12 - so we thought it was worth looking beyond the traditional 'assists' table to see who created the most chances during the campaign.

Our stats partner Opta has tallied the 'chances created' by every Liverpool player last term - combining 'assists' with final passes which resulted in a chance but not a goal.

The data makes interesting reading. Here's a list of our top 10 chance creators in the 2011-12 Barclays Premier League (minutes played in brackets).

1. Luis Suarez - 61 (2,556)
2. Stewart Downing - 55 (2,477)
3. Charlie Adam - 47 (2,175)
4. Dirk Kuyt - 40 (2,002)
5. Andy Carroll - 40 (2,065)
6. Jose Enrique - 34 (2,992)
7. Craig Bellamy - 32 (1,241)
8. Jordan Henderson - 31 (2,663)
9. Steven Gerrard - 27 (1,212)
10. Glen Johnson - 22 (1,952)

RE: Liverpool FC
It's been a bit quiet round here of late but I woke up this morning to the rumours of Brenden Rodgers being intrested in Daniel Sturridge & Adam Johnson??? I hope this has some substance as these would work well in our squad expecially with Rodgers playing style & they're the two players I was hoping we'd sign last season.

It looks like they already had a plan B for the technical director situation.

New Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will oversee the most technical approach to transfers in the Premier League as the club aims to avoid making any more expensive mistakes.

Rodgers successfully negotiated that Liverpool’s American owners Fenway Sports Group would not appoint a director of football as a condition of appointment.

But Liverpool chiefs John W Henry and Tom Werner still want Rodgers to overhaul the club’s transfer system and leave less room for errors.

Former Kop boss Kenny Dalglish spent a massive £105million to finish down in eighth place in the Premier League table and win the Carling Cup.

Dalglish splashed out £20m on Stewart Downing, who did not contribute a single Premier League goal or assist, £35m on Andy Carroll, who only showed promise at the end of the season, £16m on Jordan Henderson, who is yet to make his mark and £9m on Charlie Adam from Blackpool.

To avoid similar overspending and to promote the ‘Moneyball’ philosophy that has worked successfully in baseball – and sparked a popular book and movie – FSG want transfers to be put to a committee for careful consideration.

The plan put former Barcelona sporting director Txiki Begiristain off the idea of joining the new Liverpool set-up, but Rodgers is ready to embrace a strategic view towards buying players.

Rodgers has been asked to appoint a head of recruitment, head of development and head of medicine who will all be asked to provide data and give their opinion on any signings.

Current head of analytics Michael Edwards will be given a far greater role to produce statistical information on Liverpool’s current players and those they are looking to sign.

While Rodgers is seen as the Billy Beane of Liverpool’s ‘Moneyball’ set up, Edwards is very much viewed as the club’s equivalent to Paul DePodesta, who supplied Beane with his statistical information.

Rodgers is also keen to pay greater attention to the mental strength of potential signings and their ability to cope with the expectation of playing at a big club with passionate supporters.

He believes that some players are equipped with the physical skills to step up from a smaller club or a lower league, but may not have the mental capabilities to handle what comes with playing for Liverpool.

Rodgers has already started shaping his backroom by taking Colin Pascoe, Glen Driscoll and Chris Davies with him from Swansea to Liverpool, while Dalglish’s former assistant Steve Clarke this week left to become West Brom’s new head coach.

Gylfi Sigurdsson, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Swansea, is one player Rodgers has already recommended Liverpool sign.

I haven't read it all but it seems not much different to what Damian Comolli was trying to do except he came up with Stewart Downing & £20m. I don't see it working full effect in the Premier League as so called lesser or young players will still cost a bomb, look at Jordan Henderson, he cost £16m & in time I think he'll be worth it especially in his best position of central midfield, which he'll be able to play if Rodgers goes with a 4-3-3 formation but he should've cost around £6m to £8m. Smaller clubs will always cream the top clubs for big money no matter how good a player is, even when a Premier League club goes abroard the price will be silly, Gylfi Sigurdsson is gonna cost Swansea £6.8m but if we enter the race he'll cost us around £10m & thats £10m we don't need to spend given we've got 21 year old Jordan Henderson.

I've always been a fan of A. Johnson and would love to see him play for us but I doubt we will ever get him.

I actually think we should sign Sigurdsson (if we can get him for the same price Swansea have agreed). Yes we have plenty of central midfielders already but I reckon this guy could get us some much needed goals.

I watched him play plenty of times last season and was very impressed - he's got a good shot on him (either foot), he can assist, is a good set piece taker and he is still only 22 years old.

We've been linked with Diame too - anyone know much about him?

He's a defensive midfielder, but struggled last season to break into the Wigan first team. He is alleged to have heart problems and he is available on a free transfer

The echo's been pretty strong on the Sturridge, Sigurdsson and Kalou signings over the past week. Kalou's a free agent and i reckon we'd get Sturridge and Sigurdsson for around 10 million each. Good additions they could be, be pleased if we brought them in.

The 3 for just 20 million sounds like decent business.

Aquilani looks like he's on his way for silly numbers, 3 or 4 million i've heard Rolleyes. He's worth £10 million of anybody's money for me.

Nobody is going to risk 10 million for Aquilani, who is injury prone

The lad's been injury free for the past 2 seasons. He's only 27, his vision on the pitch is up there with likes of Alonso and Xavi. He's one of the best passers of the ball in europe. 10 million would be a snip for someone i reckon. £3 million if it's true is ridiculous. Rodgers should give him a chance to prove himself.
