It's not all of a sudden. He said much the same after Lampard's goal was not given at the World Cup. That's why the technology has already been approved now, subject to final testing.

Yes he may have said he was open to ideas for technology, but he never used the word 'necessity'

And he'll probably keep saying it until he's carted off to the funny farm!! I bet those goal officials probably are sponsored by SpecSavers!! But I wouldn't be at all surprised if even after approval, and all the talking & testing that's been done, FiFA will decide it's too expensive to implement and stick with their "tried and trusted formula" and that probably means Platini's way. The trouble is I think as far as FIFA is concerned they want to keep controversial decisions controversial just to keep the debate going. They don't want the change.

The word he used is irrelevant really, given that FIFA have already approved goal line technology.

^^^ but apparently platini's in favour of six officials and against goal-line tech. he can vito it's use in the champions league and future euro tournaments. why has this arsehole got that amount of power?
