It's been rumoured that an announcement on the top BBC job could be revealed as early as the end of this week. I'll reserve judgement on the ofcom saga until this has reached a conclusion

Well were you really expecting that much from a channel reshuffle anyway? Ofcom will still have their strong views on the Babe channels weather the channel reshuffle happened or not. A change of leadership at Ofcom, is the only hope

No hope at all there. After a succession of emasculated men at the helm, the next head at topsy tower will be female.

Going through a quiet patch, but been there before havent we? Until the rules change all it takes is one zealous official. A 100 hardcore shows in a row could be broadcast and ignored, then a single 2 second pussy slip could result in a £50,000 fine and final warning.

Worries me too. Impotent rage can do that to a man. It might be tempting to take it out on the BBC but that would be too transparent and wide open to challenge. Throwing himself into his work and attacking a sector that has few public friends might seem a better choice. No doubt he is too mature for that.

no its been confirmed he didnt be prepared for more restrictions as hes probably not very happy and will likely take out his frustrations on the babe channels

You would hope that it would be the direct opposite. Years of brown-nosing to the right people has got him nowehere.

Why not gain revenge by going against the very twits who rejected you and become far more liberal and adult in waht is allowed on Uk TV.

Well where do we go from here we ask ourselves? Ed Richards has failed to clinch the bbc job which means he'll be heading back to his tyrannical reign as Ofcoms leader so what now? Will our babe channels bear the brunt of his backlash? That's a question none of us can answer!! I guess we'll all have to wait and see, I personally don't think the babe channels will be effected, i think the current rules and regs are tight enough as they are. Look i think it's just a matter of waiting to see what transpires in the coming weeks, i think we'll no soon enough. Personally I wish Ed Richards would have got the job, making way for a new man at the top, however this hasn't happened, mmmh time will tell

Hes damaged goods now and his employers know he is looking at other jobs.

Its OK for the BBC internal candidates, wanting to make your own organisation the best and being beaten by a better candidate isnt a bad move careerwise. Being rejected by a bigger and more prestigous organisation is embarrasing at best.

Every decision he makes regarding the BBC will be microscopically examined for bias for or against. And anything that affects BBC competitors (Sky, Four, Five, ITV).

His moral judgement may also be called into question because he might have been involved in decisions affecting the BBC and Sky shortly before slamming in the job application at the last minute. Was it in the back of his mind? Was he formulating his supporting statement with examples while discussing matters? Possibly not, but perception matters.

Dont be surprised if after a decent delay he leaves to become Chief Executive of an unrelated quango or ex public company - Water perhaps - or head of ethics at an independent media company.

Agree with Eccles, I can see big-Ed's time at ofcom being short-lived from here.
Maybe his application to the beeb was more than just ambition as well, maybe he saw that the writing was on the wall for ofcom, and was trying to jump ship before it got disbanded or split up or whatever.

i would like to know how one man can be responsible for all the decisions at ofcom , surely a panel would decide the fate of a channel in breach of their so called rules ?
